Anyone looking for some good, hardy, solid batteries that will go a long way need look no further. These are some of the most advanced non-rechargeable batteries on the market [hence the price tag]. They can withstand just about anything that you can put them through and continue working even after having been crushed, mangled, run over or put under water for a long peroid of time. The full-body closed metal covering prevents leakadge in or out of the battery and insures safety for the user and others around. I have a power-guzzling digital camera, but even so these batteries last for at least 2x as long as cheepie ones in it; [really - more than twice as long, I`m not kidding]. So for anyone out there in need of some good batteries - get these ... Read More:

The main requirement of a radio is that it produces excellent sound quality and that is exactly what this Sony radio does. The bass is perfect (my partner's a professional bassist, so I'm fussy!)and I rarely have to use the mega bass facility. I mainly listen to classical which has the widest range of sound covering the whole orchestra & jazz which requires a full bass sound without overpowering the top and middle, so it's a good test and the balance is perfect. Speech is very clear and easy to listen to. The tuning wheel is precise and isn't too loose, so it doesn't retune if accidentally brushed. The tuning dial lights up so it's very clear. Simple on/off switch, again nicely stiff to avoid mistakes, but easy to use. If I had a criticism it ... Read More:

This is a really nice and 'simple' product to use.
Tuning is easy because it has the 'old fashioned' analogue dial. It makes finding a station simple.
The on-off switch is big and on the front of the set. The radio uses regular 'AA' batteries, which seem to last forever. I bought one of these radio's for my wife - she uses it in the kitchen every day, and to listen to when ironing. The on/off switch is really useful when the phone rings and you have 'kitchen' or 'garden' fingers - you don't get the radio all messy or wet!
My mother-in-law liked it so much that we got her the same model for her birthday, and it also lives in her kitchen most of the time.
The sound is good, and can be quite loud. The sound ... Read More:

This is a simple, cheap and easy-to-use radio. It doesn't have any flashy features, but that clearly isn't the aim of this model anyway.
The styling is nice; it follows the classic handheld shape/layout, but the book-like curves give it a slightly more up-to-date feel. Oddly, it's slightly wedge shaped- one side is quite thick- but it fits well in your hand.
The FM reception seems to be pretty good most of the time. I can't really judge AM (MW) because I don't use that as much, and the PC or TV normally interferes with reception; but it seems okay (as far as MW goes, anyway).
You wouldn't expect something this size to give really loud hi-fi sound, and it doesn't. Given those limitations, speech is fine, and music is listenable, ... Read More:
In contrast to other reviewers I found the radio reception (for R4) very poor in rural Mid-Wales - we are a long way from a transmitter. It's a pity, as it's a neat little radio, hopefully happy in its new home.

Sony ICF-C273L Clock Radio
I have three main criticisms:
You cannot choose whether to have the radio or buzzer on specific occasions - you have to choose when programming it. On my previous Toshiba I could do that at the flick of a switch - for important wake ups I used the buzzer - on more relaxed mornings the radio.
It does not have an ear-phone socket although it says it has on European models. I though we were part of Europe these days! This means that I cannot use my excellent Roberts "Pillow Talk" for night-time listening.
The lack of battery backup has been mentioned by other reviewers and is a definite snag.
On balance I wish I had not bought the Dream machine.

I bought this to replace a Philips stereo which lasted a year. In the hope of this lasting longer, I spent another 50+ pounds on this model, and I was very happy.
In the box comes a slim remote controller (without AAA batteries), with an English manual (for UK) and a power lead. The stereo itself is very well designed, and sturdy. It does not seem to be made out of the cheap plastic my previous Philips, Sharp, Hitachi stereos were made out of.
The stereo itself is not light, not heavy. Its handle is huge, the aerial is normal, cassette deck is well positioned with the buttons, and the CD tray is on the top. One down side is that the CD door is quite large, so it takes some time to open and close - but the oil will wear down on that.
