This is a clasical guitar album recorded by John Williams in his style of ultimate perfection. Don't confuse this with Flamenco Spanish guitar.

as the old saying goes{i may not know art but i know what i like}. i may not be an expert on spanish classical guitar music but this cd is excellent. track 5 disc 1 is 10 minutes of heaven.you may recognise it as the music from the film el cid.there are 1 or 2 tracks that dont quite hit the mark but mostly this is a fantastic compilation album and will satisfy most peoples needs. just relax with a bottle of rioja, turn off your phone and dont answer the door bell. you will be transported back to that little secret tapas bar that only you and your loved one know about. the sevilla feria 05 is where it takes us.

This album is a compilation of two recordings made in 1971 and 1978, by two of the greatest classical guitarists ever to have lived, and certainly the two greatest living today. These masters have almost never collaborated, and so these recordings are particularly valuable.
The repertoire here is a beautifully chosen and varied one. It includes pieces that will be familiar to all classical guitar enthusiasts, with compositions by Carulli, Albeniz and Granados. Giuliani's "Variazioni Concertanti" is particularly wonderful, and illustrates writing for the guitar at its peak. Some more unusual choices, transcribed from various settings for guitar duet, include Debussy's beautiful "Clair de Lune" and "Reverie" on CD 1. On CD 2, Faure's "Dolly, ... Read More:

This album showcases Julian Bream's supreme ability to interpret the spanish classical repertoire as no-one else can. His extraordinary musical sensitivity and stunning technique allow him to bring this music alive, and to evoke the land and culture from which it came in vivid colour. The tonal range he coaxes from the instrument is incredible, and the quality of these recordings is particularly high.
The pieces attempted here are a varied and rewarding selection. A highlight for me is Granados' wonderful "Danzas Españolas Op.37 No.4". The introduction is sparse and lightly phrased, with a dancing melody and chimed counter-rhythms that build into a rolling, powerful theme, and Bream plays it superbly. Albeniz's well-known "Suite española No. ... Read More:

Yepes has done two much better versions of the Rodrigo pieces than the Alonso version given. Though the famous Adagio of Concierto de Aranjuez is wonderful in this his second recording, he is let down by the boring conducting of Alonso in the outer movements. The later recordings he made with Navarro of both the Fantasia and Concierto are easily obtained and better overall. Yepes' 1969 recording on Decca with Argenta is one of the greatest ever put on disc but seems to be unobtainable at the moment. All the other Spanish works are highly recommendable as Yepes had a wonderful affinity with his native music.

Bottom line up front, this is one of the best John Williams compilations available. It has not only memorable movie soundtrack songs, but also his music from the Olympics. While other John Williams music CDs have lots of songs, this one has some of the best variety compared to others.
This is a good collection of music by Johann Sebastian Bach. Half of the album consists of his cello suites, being transcribed by Segovia for guitarist John Williams (not to be confused with John Williams the American composer of film music), and the remainder is an assortment of transcriptions, again by Segovia, from other instruments including the violin partitas (spelt incorrectly as `paritia' on the track list) and lute suites.
All the works are lively and happy pieces - the terms such as allemande, courante, sarabande, minuetto, gigue, bouree, gavotte and chaconne have Italian and French origins and are used to describe the rhythm of dance orientated music themes.
Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia, born 1893, is claimed as ... Read More:

This is a fantastic CD. I purchased it just before seeing the very talented John Williams and John Etheridge on their recent live tour which was breath-taking. There is a variety of music styles from around the world including John William's own compositions. Enjoy!

As the previous reviewer said, this is a great introduction to the world of classical guitar music. As usual with ClassicFM Cd's, the quality of the music on offer is superb, with a few well known pieces that have been arranged for the guitar; like Elgar's Nimrod etc.. As said before, if your new to this style, or you want something to just relax to, then you can't go wrong with this.
