Street Fighter (Plug n Play TV Games)

from: Radica

June 03, 2005
I remember how popular Street Fighter was when I was a kid. I had to have a joint Birthday and Christmas present one year just so my parents could afford to get me a Super NES with Street Fighter 2 Turbo included!!

The Special Championship Edition was only released for the Sega Megadrive and is a combination of the original Championship Edition and the Hyper/Turbo editions. It is every bit as good as the arcade and has the added advantage that you can vary the speed between original sluggish and really fast.

The controller is excellent too and is a reproduction of the 6-button Megadrive controller that was brought out specifically for playing SF2. I actually prefer this one as it weighs less and the D-pad has a "loose" ... Read More:

Atari Classics - Plug n Play TV Games

from: Atari

Undisputed leader of the home videogame market was Atari's truly revolutionary 2600 console. In fact, the pixellated magic produced by this teak-effect box of jiggery-pokery helped Atari shift over 30 million units and the 2600 (or VCS) is now universally regarded as the godfather of home consoles. Even today, videogame aficionados fondly remember that primitive, thumb-numbing Atari joystick with blister-tinged affection. Which is just as well, because ingenious boffins have now managed to cram 10 classic Atari games into an officially licensed replica Atari joystick!

The 10-in-1 really puts the "joy" in joystick, and you'll be unable to put it down, even when it's not plugged in. In fact, position it next to your PS2/Xbox/GameCube and see ... Read More:

Just got my EK stunt set for X-mas. I am a 30 year old child and had an original of these back in the 70's. It was and still remains my favourite toy. You can use it outside. Infact if I remember they are better on concrete. I definitly didnt have the supplied ramps when I was a smaller child but used cardboard, books etc. I like the ramps and extra stuff with the latest version but there was a degree of ingenuity needed and a chance to explore triganometry and other engineering principals in building your own ramps (size is important!!!); not to mention the re-cycle aspect of using many cardboard boxes by the end of new year. Any way...its still brilliant, very noisy yes, but I think it adds to the rush especially when you achieve the perfect jump or he ... Read More:

A Clockwork Orange (Penguin Modern Classics)

by: Anthony Burgess

February 24, 2000
This is a fantastic and clever book. It follows in the same vein as Orwell's 1984, but takes things that one step further. The book is narrated by the compelling anti-hero Alex. It is written in the language of the gangs of the streets of this dystopian future place, which now is not so very unlike our own society. Alex hates school and rails against authority, hanging out with his gang of thugs in the Corova Milk Bar, taking drugs, raping girls and enjoying nights of bloody mayhem.

An ill-judged robbery goes hideously wrong and Alex is incarcerated in prison, where he becomes the subject of a new social experiment which claims to reprogramme the brain so that violence is no longer an option. Alex takes us through these events and their aftermath ... Read More:

Convoy [1978]

starring: Kris Kristofferson, Walter Kelley, Ali MacGraw, Ernest Borgnine, Burt Young
directed by: Sam Peckinpah

September 11, 2006
(And to think that i am only reviewing this one so as to get the average down!) Couldn't agree more with Trevor Willsmer's comments about this being Peckinpah's worst movie. You normally expect a great deal more from any "Sam Peckinpah" film. This one is a terrible disappointment, although it seems to have given a lot of pleasure to the other reviewers. Personally, i would buy just about ANY other SP film than this one. The plot is threadbare thin, and i don't know what SP saw in Kris Kristofferson as an actor. (Guess he was okay in "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid", mind.) Avoid this one, unless you're a Peckinpah completist or have time and money to burn.

Yes admittedly there are a few drawbacks to this game, mentioned in other reviews, such as the reversal of the X and O keys and the somewhat bizarre animal picture rewards.
Having said that, this game works well on a lot of levels and has different layers which maintain interest for long periods of time. The Brain Age test keeps you coming back daily to try and improve your previous score, whilst the school-style grading of the training games makes you keen to improve on your scores in each game, because really, who doesn't want to be given A+ grades for everything they do?! There is also a challenge mode where you travel around the world answering questions. If completed, which is no mean feat, you are rewarded with awards for various different skills, which you ... Night At The Museum (2 Disc Special Edition) [2006]

directed by: Shawn Levy

Larry needs a job to prove to his son that he is not justall hot-air.So he gets at job at the large Natural History Museum. Sounds a pretty tame job? Yes, maybe but not if your the night guard. Alone in the mueseum where things come alive at night.
The beginning of the film is slow and I almost wanted to ask," Shall we stop watching this?" But it soon livens up. Its a reasonable film, with a few gags and edge-of-your-seat kind of stuff.
One little Point: One thing that grated on me was the usual stereotyping of dad being dumb and mum having everything together.

The Wide Window (A Series of Unfortunate Events No. 3)

If you haven't got the stomach for a story that includes a hurricane, a signalling device, hungry leeches, cold cucumber soup, a horrible villain, and a doll named Pretty Penny, then this book of dismay will probably fill you with despair. Though it is very miserable this book is also very puzzling because there is a code that needs to be cracked. Missing people and a very wide window crash may frighten you in this terrifying book. Beware! This book is for only children under 16 and not a peek from an adult is allowed. Plus kids under seven must not read even a sentence in this horrible book. Rating: 8/ 10.
