I don't believe this product matches the description. A red light bulb does not provide night vision. I'm going to return this product.

As long as you don't expect a storybook with a narrative you won't be disappointed. Each double page of this book is incredibly detailed with flora and insect life. Along the sides of the pictures are a selection of the insects singled out and named with a large, clear number by their side indicating how many of the little creatures you're looking for in the picture. The scenes are often from far-flung places such as deserts or jungles, with some more local forest and meadow scenes.

My three-and-a-half year-old son ADORES this book. Despite it not being a story he loves it at bedtime. He chooses which insect to search for and it really helps his visual scanning and concentration as he looks back and forth for each bug. Of course ... Read More:

The Big Bug Book

My grandson has been interested in bugs since he was tiny. I bought him this book (or rather, Father Christmas brought it) last year when he was 5. He absolutely loves it. It's supposed to be for children from 8 up but because of the way it's presented, with short explanations as well as more detailed information and great graphics, it has enabled him to develop his reading skills and learn an awful lot about the creatures he finds in the garden. Also, because it's a factual book, it may spend a week or two on the shelf untouched, but as soon as a bug is mentioned, out it comes again!

Well worth including in a child's book collection.

I bought one on the high street as for a present for my son. It was completely useless. I couldn't hear a thing with it, I took it back and tried another thinking it was faulty, but it was the same so I got my money back. Ended up getting the Binatone 150, more money but it works well.

Perfume Lab

I bought this for my 8 year old daughter and she liked it - mind you it only lasted for a day or so and the scents were not much to write home about. I cant help thinking that a good ol go with some rose petals and water has about the same educational level. i think that it could have had more scents in it - and more interesting ones too. These packs never have enough stuff in them and once they are gone they are gone. Mind you my daughter did enjoy doing it but beware - you may have to wear rose and mint perfume!

Reading the other reviews, I was pretty worried when I heard that this had been bought for my daughter's birthday. I thought that it could put her off something that she could otherwise take an interest in. Having tried it out though, it's actually fine, and got a lot of interest and play time from my daughter and her visiting friends.

Physically it's typical for a modern toy, quite plasticky and light. It fits together easily and is easy to hold (where the lightness helps for a child). It has two rotary controls: one for on/volume and one for sensitivity. There is an animating display which is lit and spins while it's searching and stops when it finds something, accompanied by a beeping sound.

I was given this as a leaving present, as a kind of joke, but my colleagues didn't realise I've always loved ants and really wanted one of these for ages! I wasn't disappointed. This is a well-designed product which provides hours of entertainment and fascination. I've seen all sorts of strange things going on in my Ant World: ants moving things around then back again like women designing a living room with furniture, a brutal murder when an ant I thought had escaped turned out to clearly be from outside (i.e. it was killed within minutes of entry), and interesting preferences for lunch: fruits not as popular as one might think, honey, other insects and even nuts proving popular on the menu.
