Olympus ME-15 Tie Clip Microphone

I've had to return this item because it only works in sockets that provide power to the microphone (my laptop doesn't). Although this was clear from the documentation that arrived with the mic, it wasn't stated in the online product/technical info.

Therefore, purchase this item only if you are intending to use it in a powered microphone socket.

Appears fine at first, but the controls have a very annoying fault - fast forwarding or rewinding is done with the same buttons that jump to another file either forward or backward, and it's very easy to accidentally jump to the end of a recording - very irritating when you're 20 minutes in to a 90 minute interview. I agree with the other comments re: Digital Wave Player - it's a pain, and life would be far simpler if the recorder could be plugged into any PC and seen as an external hard drive from which to drag and drop audio files.
Worse still, my VN-2100PC has now packed up altogether. It won't transfer files via DWP without an error message popping up halfway through the process, and it dies without warning even on fresh batteries. ... Read More:

This is a nightmare of a voice recorder. It is the epitomy of bad design. The buttons on the side are hard to use. In particular the fast forward and rewind function are terrible - you have to hold your finger down on the button and it goes maddeningly slow in either direction so that it takes an age to find a particular bit you've recorded. Also when you are holding it the battery has a tendency to pop out regularly.It's also hard to pull the two halves of the machine apart to plug it in to the usb hub. I bought this as it was slightly dearer and thought it'd be superior - wrong! My friend has a cheaper model the vn 3100 -pc and it seems a lot better. Olympus WS-320M Digital Voice Recorder and Music Player

Excellent little machine, though mine came in a white case. Still looks good though.

It's amazingly small and ridiculously easy to use. Plug into your PC/Mac and it appears as an external drive.

Mac users: this recorder uses WMA files. The Apple site states that iTunes will play them, but it doesn't. The fix is simple: go to Microsoft.com; type in Quicktime and download flip4mac; then go to a WMA file's Get Info on and change the file association. That's it!

Olympus ME-51S Stereo Microphone

Bought to complement my WS-210S Olympus digital recorder. Seems that mixing different makes of mics and recorders can produce disappointing results!

This Olympus microphone and the Olympus WS-210S are a perfect match and work very well together.

The Olympus USA site has a better product description than any site I have seen.

It also comes with an extension lead and a tie clip so that the mic can be placed within 1m of the recorder.

This microphone requires plug-in-power, i.e. power supplied by the recorder.

Olympus WS-300M Digital Voice Recorder and Music Player

This is definately 5 star kit, it is a bit delicate, but its tiny and weighs nothing so what can you do? I keep mine in a spectacle case in some foam so its well protected. To record live music is a little outside its capability as the music is boosted in quiet parts and clipped in loud parts and doesn't sound great when heard back, shame you can't set the record levels but then it is a voice recorder.

I bought this to help me with interviews. It is surprisingly the same size as Sony Ericsson W810 mobile phone. It is very easy to use, I like the fact that you can adjust the playback speed to slow or fast. I read the manual before installing the software and find it completely easy to use. It may have been updated though. Downloading files was straight forward as well. It doesn't work like an external storage. You can playback the files after downloading using Itunes or even WMPlayer. But only after downloading using the 'Digital Wave Player'. Very pleased with this purchase.

This is one of the best digital recorders that you can buy for less than £50. Does exactly what it promises! The software is simple and runs smooth on a XP platform.

I just took a job that requires me to record lectures, presentations and one-on-one interviews. My old Sony cassette recorder quickly proved inconvenient for the purpose - if only in trying to keep up with its endless demand for batteries and blank tapes. Reviews of this recorder inspired me to give it a chance.

I fully expected the sound quality to be better than the cassette recorder, which added hiss both during recording AND playback. But the sound quality is better than I had hoped for. Last night I recorded a lecture where the speaker did not use a microphone and I had no hope of getting near the front of the room. I set the recorder on my knee and hoped that would be enough. Olympus DS-50 Digital Voice Recorder with MP3/WMA Playback 1GB

The quality of the audio recordings that this little device produces is astounding for something so small. Its memory capacity and battery life are huge. It is sturdy, small, lightweight, well-designed and very easy to use. I have used it for recording everything from interviews to symphony concerts and it has coped superbly every time. The recording quality is far superior to anything I have heard from a tape recorder and the files produced can (if they are not too long) be e-mailed easily to anyone who needs them. I would happily give it 5 stars on every scale I can think of.
