Maximum Lego NXT: Building Robots with Java Brains (James Tiptree Award Anthology)

I bought this book not long ago, and I've got through the first few chapters.
I can definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to do a little more with their NXT and build some more interesting robots. It's a great way to start playing around with some ideas if you're used to a certain amount of programming and find the graphical programming language that comes with the NXT just too restricting.

However there are a number of pretty weird mistakes with this book. References to things that aren't there (but presumably were in drafts), errors in the way you set up java and eclipse, and rather unclear diagrams. I have a certain amount of experience with java, so I was able to set things up fairly quickly. But I can imagine ... Read More:

The Unofficial LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Inventor's Guide

My 12 year old son received Lego Mindstorms for Xmas in 2006 and I recognised that we needed further guidance and inspiration to learn and go beyond the basics. Therefore we bought this book for Xmas 2007,, and it's been fantastic. It offers a reference guide to all the pieces and how to work with gears and axles etc,, it explains and provides a reference for all the programming blocks. Then it provides 6 robots with clear step by step instructions on how to build them, and provides the programming code for each. The programmes build up in complexity to a level where the robots could be believed to be intelligent. The other great thing is that the author has provided free of charge all the programmes featured in the book on his website. We have ... Read More:

Building Robots With Lego Mindstorms

by: Syngress

This really is an outstanding book covering all aspects of building robots. The first half covers a number of different fundamentals of robot design from gearing, steering and pneumatics, right though to some useful mathematical methods (honest!). The second half of the book provides details of number of working robot designs that you just have to make and adapt. The style of the book is to fire the imagination of the reader rather than give step by step instructions of particular models. It certainly succeeds at this! Although written with an emphasis on the construction and engineering aspects of robots, the snippets of programming code (mainly in NQC) are very clear and provide enough insight into getting the best out of the models. If you ... Read More:

LEGO Mindstorms NXT-G Programming Guide (Technology in Action Press Book)

Hi,

I received this book almost 2 months ago from now. I learned about this book when I was reading the "Mayan Adventure" of the same author Jim Kelly.

Both books are very interesting and excellent written. However after reading the Mayan Adventure, I had the feeling I was missing something about the NXT-G programming language. I need a more indept review of all the NXT-G programming objects than described in the Mayan Adventure.

I know you have the online reference, but it is not the same. So I bought NXT-G book and I liked it from the very beginning.

If you like me to build your own creations (mechanically and program) this book is definatelly a must have. The explanations are very detailled and clear. Also it starts ... Read More:

LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Hacker's Guide

by: Dave Prochnow

January 01, 2007
Dave Prochnow was selected to take part in Lego's pre-release of the Mindstorms NXT system, and the book is written from the perspective of someone who has had access to the NXT parts and software for a good while.
He covers four main topics - the history of Lego robotics (including RIS), the NXT system, the project ideas and an extended section on design in around 450 pages.

However, the useful section of the book for the NXT builder is contained in section 3, the 'hack' projects, which covers only 90 or so pages. Some of the projects are fun - adding a video camera to the system for example, but some of them seem to go nowhere- the Bluetooth hack spends a couple of pages explaining the Bluetooth protocol, then wanders into a discussion for the 'Pepper ... LEGO Mindstorms NXT Power Programming: Robotics in C

by: John C. Hansen

November 19, 2007
Summary: An excellent 'next step' for getting the most from this powerful computer system

Mindstorms NXT is robot building tool from Lego. The centrepiece is a large "brick" containing a 32-bit ARM7 computer - the kind of computer you might find in a PDA or a Smartphone. The kit includes a graphical programming environment capable of quite complex programs as well as being accessible to beginners and youngsters. The kit also includes motors and sensors, wheels, gears, and a whole lot of technic-style Lego to hold them together.

John Hansen's book takes all of these components and organises them in a coherent and easily understandable fashion. He describes how to use the various components and explains the sensors (that range from a simple contact ... Read More:
