Sennheiser CX300 Eco Ear Canal Headphones White

I bought a pair of these to use with my iPod Mini, and I was immediately impressed with the sound, which was clear, full and generally well-balanced. I feel they are very good value for money at under £20 (they retail for £40 at some outlets).

The key to success with these headphones is to find the best fitting buds. They should be snug inside the ear but only what you're comfortable with. Just try them all, swapping every few minutes until you find the best balance between sound and comfort.

Be sure to push the buds in to the ear properly, as this tight fit is what allows the strong bass response. It may feel a little odd at first, but after a couple of days use you will get used to it.

Once my iPod Video earphones developed a rattle I thought it was time to invest in a decent pair of earphones and after a bit of deliberation went for the CX400's.
Plus points: love the noise reduction (it really does work and I find I often have to turn the volume right down in all but the noisiest places); the "non tangle" wire is superb and even when the 'phones have been stuffed into a pocket, a quick shake and they are ready to go; I like the choice of 3 ear bud sizes to ensure a good fit and the extension is a great idea as is the coat clip.
Not so good points: initially I thought the sound was not as bass-ey as my iPod 'phones and spent a little adjusting with the EQ, however now I have gotten used to the sound I appreciate a ... Read More:

I bought a pair of CX400 to replace my last sennheiser headphones that were perfect until the cable failed - the same problem with the last 2 sets so i tried something new.

The sound quality is good but very fiddly to achieve. You need to make sure the seal on the earbuds is perfect otherwise your get tinny and poor quality sound.

If you get the seal right then it is impressive, good base and quality for all the music i like - classical, trance, folk, rock, you name it.

The biggest downside though - and the reason i will stop using these when i can replace them - is the cable noise.

Sennheiser CX 500 - High Quality Noise Isolating Ear-Canal Headphones With Volume Control - Black

Personally I find the sound quality of the CX500s very good and they are comfortable headphones with a useful range of accessories. The noise isolation is reasonable for the price, though one byproduct of this is very noticeable "cable rub" noise.

This may seem an unusual complaint (though I've seen it mentioned in a number of other reviews) but the packaging really is appalling. You have to work hard not to slice yourself and the headphones to pieces whilst hacking your way in. I am guessing it is designed this way to make them difficult to return to shops once opened, but it is both a waste of plastic and a real annoyance.

Does what it claims to..though sticking it on to the ipod screen is a bit of a challenge (but that would be the case for any screen protector I guess!). It does get scratched...there's no doubt. I mention this because the packing mentions it is scratch resistant or something like that. But that means it has protected the screen from getting scratched.

I agree with all the comments here that at the price they are a bargain, and they very effectively isolate only the music you're listening too, but I've had mine only a couple of months and now have to look for a new pair.

Firstly, the rubber ear buds come off quite easily, so on a few occasions they've got lodged in my ear, but more annoyingly I've since lost one on a plane as it sprung from my ear never to be seen again.

The main reason I have to go shopping again though is that the sound form the right ear is becoming intermitent, and the plug into the socket needs to be twiddled to get the sound back.

Even for eight quid I would not have expected a technical fault like this after only two months, so I feel when it comes to these ... Read More:

I was becoming paranoid about my iPod getting scratched and the leather case I had, provided little in the way of comfort even if it did have a fold over cover. Having looked at various solutions I settled on this case which is a snug fit and well designed covering the screen with an optical quality hard cover and the rest of the iPod with a tough but tactile silicone "jacket".

It doesn't get 5 stars as the hold button is hard to operate with the case in place but otherwise it does a terrific job. Highly recommended.
