A lot of people seem to not like this and, while I can understand their points, I found this okay if a little frustrating a times.
Basically you drop into the action taking a hard route or an easy one, then you go for your objectives via a variety of bad guys. Frustrations include a long time between checkpoint saves, the fact you have to keep parachuting in despite your checkpoint being on the ground, and the strange addition of hard to kill super-soldiers(?) near the end!
On the plus side the graphics are lovely and it can be intense fun at times. My XP machine was top spec two years ago but managed to cope well, (apart from some occasional freezing) and still enjoyed this. Yep it could have been better but it is ... Read More:

This is probably the first RTS game I've enjoyed in a long while, simply because I'm not managing my economic system whilst fighting a battle at the same time. Strategically it may be a bit shallow but cutting out the resource management has made this game more engaging and less frustrating. It's a must-try, only problem is that the campaign seemed a little short, but I still have multi-player to play. I'm playing with Vista, it works.

I fully agree with a previous reviewer. The game get harder as you progress. Lot's of annoying impediments to your main task. But is it perhaps the boredom factor creeping in. It seem's to throw everything at you in the first 2 missions and then it's the same again, but more frustrating. Unlike games like MoH, CoD, NOLF, etc where each episode is in a different environment AC puts you in exactly the same environment with identical NPC's, and identical tasks.
Buy it cheap and be prepared for only a limited amount of enjoyment.
Graphically it is excellent. But the gameplay is really repetitve.

Small technical difficulties aside, this is a great port. The graphics have been enhanced for PC and look great, and the gamplay in certain parts is brilliant; the cover system and regen-armour also make it refreshingly original. The only negative comment I can think of is that I was kinda relieved when it was all over:)

OK. I admit that the title is a little over the top, but I hope you can appreciate my frustration.
I bought "Orange Box" for the PC, at Tesco for £15. Now I read on the back that you would have to go online to certify the game, and whilst the machine I use isn't online, it wouldn't be an issue.
I installed the "Steam" software, and expected to install the game from the DVDs supplied. I entered my license number and waited for the installation to begin from the DVDs. Instead I'm told that the games will be downloaded from the internet, and this will take 2 days.
Aside from the fact that I don't want or need this machine to be online, I can't even install the games directly off the disks supplied.

Having followed the Unreal Tournament series right up until now I have been blown away at the sheer scale of mass destruction and death that trademarks these games.
This latest instalment has been yet another success. Never before have I actually considered the fact that the PC may actually be capable of realistic graphics, having been an extreme Xbox 360 gamer for a good year an a half until a few weeks ago when I made that big push and bought a £2,000 PC to run the latest games. This game came with the PC and I can say it was worth every penny just to play this game.
The graphics are beyond what I expected. I made a comparison between this and Call of Duty 4 (the leading game in `realistic graphics'). I got my mate to play CoD 4 (Xbox 360 ... Read More:

Actually the game-play is pretty simple. The Strogg [soulless fusions of decaying flesh, bone and metal, twisted evil by centuries of war ..etc..etc..] have finally arrived at earth, intent on harvesting the human population and turning us into them [rancid Borg style]. Naturally resistance isn't futile and the Earth armies have unified into the GDF (Global Defence Force). You can fight on either side and have an arsenal of weapons at your disposal, and of course the Stroggie ones have a pretty equal equivalent in the GDF forces: e.g. the Strogg Cyclops offers similar destructive power to the GDF's Titan tank [and both are destroyed by similar tactics/weaponry]. You can play as soldier (heavy weapons grunt), medic (yeah right), field ops (reconnaissance), undercover ops (infiltrator), ... Read More:

A lot of people complaining about the download and patching, all I have to say is you can in fact skip this step by disconnecting from the internet, unless you're here for the multiplayer.
On the game itself.
Brilliant RTS, graphics are superb, audio is excellent, and gameplay is great.

I cant write a review for a game I dont own, right? Well I do own this, and its nothing more than a shoddy tech demo, bloody awful, cheers amazon(!)

Visualy I have no problem with it. Yes it's dated but I don't mind. Engine does seem more optimised and runs a dream on mine (Vista x64 Ulti,PD945,4GB,GF7950gt512mb) and I think they have crammed more special effect into this but even if this was the newest greatest looking game out it still wouldn't get a good review from me.
As others mention the story is a bit, meh and all the 'new' stuff here really doesn't add much. Doesn't have nearly as much atmosphere or scare but has a couple of moments. The action and scare doesn't blend and for most of it have no idea what it all about I'm just going round shooting. This is a great deal to do with they've made it much more a fast shooter.
Probably the most defining thing about the original FEAR was the awesome AI and thus incredible ... Read More:
