The Stingstarring: Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Robert Shaw, Charles Durning, Ray Walston directed by: George Roy Hill March 01, 1992 Just to offer my two cents, now that both versions are on DVD: Regardless of what aspect ratio it was originally shot in, the full-screen version is indeed pan & scan. I now have both. If you compare the two, you'll see the newer widescreen DVD is not missing any of the picture from the top or bottom. It is the full-screen that is indeed missing the sides. I never saw it in the theater, so I can't say how it was originally projected. Either way, it's one of the best films ever (way better than Citizen Kane), so watch it however you want and enjoy. |
