As a person outside of the financial industry, I found the book to reveal an interesting glimpse into the history of the most venerated firm in Wall Street, from its humble inception to the present days. Along the way, you find glimpses of strong personalities that shine through the anonymity of team-oriented culture and also tragedies (e.g., the mishandled prosecution of Bob Freeman). A fascinating book.

The book was OK. I finished it. There was nothing I would call groundbreaking in this tome. He's an engaging writer in his own way (sory of reminds me of a poor-man's Bill Bryson).
Strangely enough, the front cover states, "Nonreligious Thoughts On Christian Spirituality". This is untrue. Take, for example, the last paragraph:
"...But what song will you sing when your soul gets set free?...If you haven't done it in a while, pray and talk to Jesus...Ask Him to forgive you of self-addiction, ask Him to put a song in your heart."
Now, whether or not one agrees with his thoughts, this doesn't sound very "Nonreligious," does it?

Most of us have dreams of getting rich. Right now, times are hard and most of us are feeling more insecure than we have in a long time. Yet, it is in these downturns that the foundations of wealth are best set down. Ken Fisher with Lara Hoffmans have give us a book that lays out the ten paths that can lead to the riches you think you want. You don't have to take all ten. In fact, some of the ten may revolt you and others will be of no interest. However, if you find one or a few that you can work on, you just might find you way to that pot `o gold.
What are the ten roads the authors show us?
1) Founding and leading your own visionary company.
2) Becoming a top CEO at someone else's successful company.
3) Investing in ... Read More:

Only knowing what little they teach you in grade school about this man, i bought this book to learn a little more. This is a good book to do this. I found after reading this that i really like this great man. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get a quick glimpse of Mr. Lincoln.
I hope this review is helpful to some.

Bought this for my mother-in-law, and she absolutely loved it. The stories brought back memories of her own childhood. Wish I could give this ten stars for her!

Scahill has obviously never been in the military or in a crisis area. He only has a rabid anti-christian, anti-conservative view and is blind to any good or benefit that organizations such as Blackwater can provide. He is entitled to his views, but nowhere in the nearly 400 pages of this book does he offer alternatives to companies such as Blackwater. The truth is Blackwater and companies like them DO provide essential services faster and cheaper than the government can provide them.
Wake up Scahill and friends. 9/11 happened, I suggest you start thinking about the fact that we are in a WAR against Muslim extremists and need to use every weapon in our arsenal, including private contractors.

This book is awesome. I read it after my mother passed away and I was only 16 yr. This book taught me so much and I carry it as a sort of life guide...when I feel I'm forgetting the lesson I just refresh myself. This is my most prized book and I still have it near after 10 yrs. Buy this book for any youth you love that has lost or is lost in the world and it will brighted their mind to see that there is more.

I borrowed the original from a friend and worked with it a couple of years ago. I bought the tenth anniversary edition because this year I was determined to get beyond my midlife crisis and I couldn't find this book in the library. Of course I saw the related titles in Amazon.com, and looked them up. I kind of wish Amazon and other online stores had a discreet way of indicating the order of the titles in a series. I immediately gravitated to Vein of Gold, and started to use it, but now I am in a class that is based on Walking This World. I can't do both at the same time, so I'm concentrating on the class. Artist's Way is an excellent introduction.

Anyone who has read David Sedaris' work or listened to him on NPR knows he has a style all his own. The book Naked brings the reader along on a journey through short essays that describe, in detail, aspects of his life that the common man may never experience. The final essay, which shares the title of the book, describes his experience at a nudist colony. He embraces the awkwardness of the situation and bravely details his insecurities. A tool he skillfully uses through his entire collection of essays is humor. If the humor aspect were stripped away from his writing, his work most certainly would take a darker and more depressing tone. I believe this is what makes his writing unique: his honesty, his bravery, and not to mention his phenomenal skill as a ... Read More:
