It's hard to review this book, as pretty much everyone is reading it anyway.
The writing style is engaging, clear, and interesting. Part of this is because Mr. Alter chose to use extremely short chapters, some only four or five pages long, to make the book seem to read faster. I'm not sure he succeeds in bringing his subject to life on the page. I know more about the era and about FDR's presidency and policies after reading the book, but not so much more about the man himself. Mr. Alter persistently avers that President Roosevelt succeeded more by blind luck and instinct than by intelligence and knowledge. No one has that much luck.
The book spends precious little time on those 100 days, instead describing FDR's career prior ... Read More:

May broke my heart, I cried the entire time I read about her death. You could feel every emotion with every character. A very touching book, parents you must share this with your children. Thank you Sue Monk Kidd for creating such a read.

This is one of the only books I remember from my childhood. Instead of your typical cutesy little kid story, you have something with real imagination and fun. It's an original story line with very unique illustrations. I know many adult artists who still love this book for its artwork.
I used to spend hours studying these illustrations as a child and now I'm a successful artist and I still love them. The point of these illustrations, or rather, any illustration is to supplement imagination, not create it. When I was a child these gorgeous artistic illustrations were far more interesting to me than the typical disney style. Even as a kid I could appreciate this book for its originality. Then again, I had imagination of my own, and was able ... Read More:

I question Oprah's literary tastes. She gushed over "Pillars," saying she was sad as she neared its conclusion, knowing the read would soon be over. Please! The story wasn't particularly compelling, the characters not that well developed, and Follett's story--taking about 996 pages-- was about 600 pages too long.

The Deathly Hallows brings to a close perhaps the most beloved book series of all time. Harry Potter has become a cultural phenomenon the likes of which we have never seen before. To say expectations were high is an understatement of the highest order.
The book starts in uncharted territory - without Albus Dumbledore as leader. The absence of Dumbledore was, of course, essential to Harry's journey, and it shows early on in the fact that the book edges much further into chaos than the other 6.
SPOILER TO FOLLOW:
There are some strokes of absolute Rowling genius in DH.
1. The Hallows themselves are an utterly fascinating concept. The fact that Voldemort, Grindelwald (the two most evil wizards in history) ... Read More:

Good Night Lullabies My two grandsons, ages 4 and 6, liked this book a lot. It appealed to their imaginations and the illustrations were excellent. The story loses a bit of momentun at the end, and lost the kid's interest a bit. But, overall, a fun book.

i remember back in 2004, at the Demorcratic National Convention, the atmosphere was moderately enthusiastic as you would see in many a policital convention. Al Gore was running for president. everyone was of course in somewhat an excited relm of exuberance. Untill, a tall, slim, statesque man of 6 ft 2 came on the scene. He was incredibly handsome, serious classy swagger and finesse. and when he spoke, he had the whole convention in the palm of his hand! the people were intranced! The questions started to buzz. "Who was that man?" "Where did he come from?" "What is his name again?" "How do you say his name?" As i watched him and listened to him, something deep down inside of me said, "Oh my God...That is our next President!" from then on, i kept up with this man, watching ... Read More:

I wish everyone would listen to this. It talks about many differant areas that goverment interacts in our lives and the seen and unseen consequences. Dr. Paul is articulate in a way that most Conservatives are not. His insightfulness is inspiring to anyone I know that listens, because Freedom is a powerful message.
