After 11 years of Windows use I purchased my first Mac about 6 months ago and the book, Switching To The Mac has been an invaluable aid to me in learning the new system. I just cannot tell you how many times I have referred to the manual. I have also purchased two other Missing Manuals. I would recommend all three to anyone.

Good book on jquery. I bought the book to learn jquery and it provide all I needed to port a PHP web based application of .NET using jquery and some of the plug-in to create a professional web site for a major health entity.

I have been doing c# programming for about 3 years now. Mostly I did web apps and some utilities, but did do a few larger applications. For that entire time, I could never get my head wrapped around interfaces. I knew how to create them, but not really why, so I just never used them. By the end of the first chapter in Design Patterns, it all finally `CLICKED`. On thinking back on some of the projects I did, if I had this book to begin with, the projects would have gone smoother, especially when requirements changed.

The way O'Reilly's does the Head First series is absolutely amazing. I already have the OO Analysis & Design book that is next on my list. After that, I think I will give the javascript book a shot, as that is something ... Read More:

David Busch's Nikon D300 Guide to Digital SLR Photography

This book does much better to help in understanding and operating the D300 than the users manual that comes with the camera. It's well written and well illustrated. While the Nikon users manual tells you what the many switches and menu items do, Busch's book explains the reasoning behind making each selection.

This book turned out to be really really good. It takes you through all the basics without getting boring, and its pretty thorough. At the end they even tell you "where to go from here" instead of leaving you hanging like most books. I found myself regularly keeping up with reading it, and as long as you pace yourself, you can pick up decent working knowledge within a week or two.

Amazingly I've been waiting for the 4th Edition since 07/2007 - then 11/2007 then summer 2008 finally it arrived fall 2008!

When it arrived I bought it quickly. A great book that perhaps is a bit advanced for beginners - be careful if you are just starting out with MySQL and PHP - this book may not be quite for you.

As a true Futurist , Ray Kurzweil really reaches out to the future of knowledge and AI. His predictions that computers will increasingly take over routine human functions ends up where computers will outstrip humans by 2030. It sounds a bit daunting but fear not computers will be made safe until one named HAL comes along sometime later.

His chart showing how the rate of change is accellerating is right on target. Unfortunately global warming could fall into that prediction.
