I am white. I consider myself to have a good sense of humor (as I assume even the most humorless among us do). However, the other night I sat with family listening to my brother-in-law reading various parts of Stuff White People Like: A Definitive Guide to the Unique Taste of Millions asking myself why I did not find the book at all funny. There are two reasons I don't find it funny. First the book is not about white people per se. It is describing a class to which I happily belong, upper middle class America. If in place of "white people" the author had instead had used the phrase Americans in the top quintile of the income distribution (white, black, yellow, brown or some combination thereof) or well-to-do Americans I might have found ... I have been using this guide while playing through Fallout 3.
The pullout map inside is excellent if you want to just find the main areas or, like me, love to search the little nooks and crannies.
It has a section for the main quest walkthrough, side quests, and even each "grid" of the map broken down into areas, each area broken down into the places you can see and what is there.
Also, a comprehensive section on what each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat is for and the different Perks. This I found excellent so I could plan my character and not waste anything.
And way in the back? Where you can find things such as secrets!
I would definately recommend this guide to anyone wishing to get all they ... Read More:
The reputation of George Plimpton (March 18, 1927 - September 25, 2003) was well-established prior to the publication of this oral biography of him five years after his death. However, dozens of those who knew him best will help others who only knew of him to gain an even better understanding of who and what he was...and wasn't. Credit Nelson Aldrich with a brilliant job of obtaining, organizing, and editing the abundance of material. The book's title could not be more appropriate as a prefix to various personal accounts.
For example:
1. "George, being George," he once talked the Detroit Lions into letting him participate in their pre-season program and was even allowed to play (as QB, of course) in one of the team's scrimmages ... Read More:

Kitchen Confidential is a must read for anyone who has ever set foot in the backrooms of a restaurant. Bourdain captures the environment with all its stresses, off-colored language and cooking pride. Kitchen Confidential reads similar to a feature on VH1's Behind the Music as Bourdain battles with his own demons and finds success after many years of debauchery. I have been a fan of Bourdain's No Reservation on the Travel Channel for quite awhile and now as an author. The book lead me to another Bourdain project called the Les Halles Cookbook which has inspired me to spend more time in the favorite room of my house, the kitchen. Thank you, Tony!

This was funny, sad and true. I'm glad I got it when I did as I doubt these will be around much longer. The seller provided it as promised and well within the shipment window promised.

I tried it in the bookstore and was surprised at how fun it was. It keeps track of your score electronically sending you throughout the book to find the next question to answer.
A lot of the questions are extremely obscure and I wonder how canon they are. Of course, most question can't be answered from simply knowing the movies. I've got my own ideas for that book!
The only down side was the price (and what drops it down a star). The book's a coffee table book with a little computer gadget, so I guess that's where the price comes from. Still, I wouldn't pay that much, but I wouldn't mind it as a gift.

This book is okay. Although I thought it made Ms. Spelling appear to be a self-absorbed narcissist who is completely out of touch with the real world. She spends an inordinate amount of time talking up her "accomplishments" and trying to dispel the perception that her success is directly attributable to her family ties. Additionally, the constant complaints she lodges about her life and her overwhelming desire to be "normal" has the unintended effect of justifying the fact that she really is a "poor little rich girl." Overall, the book is irritating, shallow and confirms exactly what it tries so hard to dispel.

Leonard Maltin's reviews are excellent. Nevertheless, this product is essentially unusable. In an effort to keep the page count down, the publisher has used a very small type face that I have difficulty reading even though I have a full correction in my reading glasses.
The book is adequate if one wishes to look up a single item. Browsing? Forget about it!
I have a 1999 edition of the Leonard Maltin book and it is a delight to use and browse. I have browsed it so much that its paperback binding has begun to fall apart. I plan to have my old edition professionally rebound and to donate my new edition to the book drive of my local library.

This so called book is more like a long pamphlet, approximately 160 pages that could be read on a two hour flight. There is nothing new or particularly insightful here just random vignettes that skim the surface of a troubled life. It is somewhat witty but mainly I got the impression that she banged it out over a weekend possibly to avoid an impending foreclosure or make a tuition deadline. Wait for the paperback folks.
