This book is great for building your wardrobe from the bottom up. It has everything from what pieces to buy, to how they should fit, to how to take care of and store your clothes. Theres even a section in the back of what to pack on a 3 day trip. The only con was there was little mention of accessories, belts, etc. However, now that the sequel "The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style" is out, that book includes plenty of advice on accessories.

Ordered on November 22, 2008, but must already be too late to receive the 1st printing, as I received the 2nd printing, instead (even though picture of book's dust jacket on Amazon product page is of 1st edition, as indicated by "Interview with Art Spiegelman"--whereas 2nd printing says "Introduction by Art Spiegelman"). The four bonus stickers included in the back are: Schmutz Beer, Alcohol Seltzer, Blast Blew Ribbon Beer, and KOOK Cigarettes.

Because there are so many reviews of this book, nearly all of them wildly positive, I won't try to add a great deal more here except to state that this is one of the most life-affirming books that I have ever read. As the book's protagonist lives his life over and over and over again, he gradually comes to appreciate those things that most matter. Although this is loosely considered a genre novel, it is something that almost anyone who enjoys reading will love and appreciate.
It is interesting to ask precisely what genre the book belongs to. I don't think it can be considered Sci-fi, except possibly very soft Sci-fi. It isn't quite an alternative reality novel. More than anything, it is a fantasy novel. The other work it most ... Read More:

I didn't really like the book, It was obvious that the napkins are so starched and that it wouldn't work any other way and if you've ever tried to wipe your mouth with a mega starched napkin it's uncomforable.

A really diverse and classic collection of jackets here. The author has showcased some of her signature design techniques like seamless construction and beautiful finishing detail. There is everything from simple garter and seed stitch to two-color work, lace and cables. Many different yarns are used in the projects and each pattern includes information on the yarns that will allow the knitter to choose a substitute yarn easily.
While the majority of the jackets are sized in the conventional method, using one gauge and a different set of numbers for each size, the garments that are sized by changing the needle size are done so for valid design reason. This kind of sizing is actually not new and has been used for centuries to ... Read More:

I have to admit, I wasn't all that excited at first about the release of 1000 Artist Journal Pages. Somewhere in my mind, I had decided it's kinda silly to write a book, showcasing these pages, when people could just simply look online -at no cost, for inspiration.
I'm now, totally eating those words -- err thought.
(Can you even eat a thought? Much less words? Hmmm....)
Sidenote for those who know me well: SEE- I really CAN admit when I'm wrong.
All silliness aside, it was yet another lesson for me in passing judgement on something before fully experiencing it. Had I not been in the book, I probably wouldn't have bought it -- and I truly would have been missing out. I say this not to upset anyone, but beacuse ... Read More:

One silent November evening during the first week of battle in Fallujah, Iraq, in the year of our war 2004, Lt. Col. Kopelman, battalion commander, led his troops through a seemingly empty street sided by seemingly empty houses when one of his men heard click, click, shuffle sound. Sticking his rifle into the doorway he found a yipping, tail-wagging, and nail-clicking fur bundle of puppy.
This discovery began a five month odyssey of puppy rescue. "Lava," the puppy, made it to the United States, in spite of rules forbidding the transfer of animals.
It took a band of conspirators to get the puppy out of Iraq by air to Chicago's O'Hare Airfield, then on to California in April 2005, where "Lava" lived happily ever after.

Every once in a while a book comes a long that has such a profound effect on society that it creates a movement for awareness and betterment. Rachel Carson's book, Silent Spring, is one of those. Silent Spring did for the environmental movement what Upton Sinclair's The Jungle did for the labor movement and Uncle Tom's Cabin did for the anti-slavery movement. Carson took a stand on environmental abuses, especially against the chemical industry in this work of social criticism. Carson opened the eyes of many and forced many to take responsibility for their actions, which sparked a modern environmental and awareness movement that is still active today.
Silent Spring discusses the implications of using harmful chemicals to all life--plant, animal, human and the like. ... Read More:
