This book compares contemporary America to the Roman Empire. In asking whether we are Rome, Murphy is really asking whether we are doomed to decline and fall, as Rome did. When I began this book I was thinking of Rome at its peak. However, its focus is really on the decline of the empire. With the focus on the negative aspects of the (mostly late) Roman Empire and of America, it gradually becomes clear that the author does not much like either Rome or America. Two examples from the text will explain what I mean. The author takes exception to the plaque left by Neil Armstrong on the moon that says "We came in peace for all mankind," apparently on the grounds that Americans should not be speaking for all mankind. I read this book on my Amazon Kindle. Ironically this book describes why my Amazon Kindle (and for that matter your iPhone) may represent a problem for the information technology industry (and for all of us as individuals).

Zittrain describes how open devices and software platforms can faciltate innovation and how closed platforms don't. Further, he discusses how these emerging closed device platforms risk converting the internet into a tool for simplified corporate or governmental control of what you see and hear. I've been left to pick up the pieces after a loved one's death and would not wish that experience on my family. That said, exactly because the subject was so intensely emotional, I'd put off meaningful gathering and preparation.

A recent experience I watched unfold showed me how selfish that approach was and I started looking for a method to pull together information. This book came highly recommended, and I liked the idea of the accompanying CD-Rom.

We've been making progress with our worksheets (I printed one file for each of us, with a master file for joint things like checking/savings accounts and our home). When we're almost done, we'll sit down with a professional and use this material to develop a living trust.

I bought an earlier edition while I was in law school. This book is very well organized and covers both the conceptual and practical perspectives of taxation extraordinarily well. The questions at the end of each section help to solidify your understanding of the concepts by varying the fact scenarios from question to question.

I've been in tax practice for ten years, and I purchase each updated edition for a review of the conceptual aspects of taxation and for a quick review of the tax treatment of transactions I haven't handled very often in practice.

Great tips and advice. The book explains the different types of questions on the LSAT and how to "crack" them. Also includes 3 practice tests with explanations and many practice problems. It really helped my LSAT preparations!!!

As other reviewers mentioned, Montauk's book is the most complete tome on the subject of law school admissions to date. It's also very honest. It is hard to get into a top 20 law school and he makes sure the reader understands this fact. He also lets the reader know that for many people, law is the wrong choice and will only lead to lots of debt and unhappieness in the future.

The negative reviews on Amazon seem to come from people who were taken aback that Montauk might suggest that law isn't right for everyone, but he is really doing potential applicants a favor. Fine popular account of the jostlings, jarrings, and jealousies behind the marble pillars. The reader will discover--mirable dictu!--that the justices and the politicians who put them in place are filled with human sensibilities and foibles.

Greenburg mastered the Woodward techinque of badgering everyone for solo interviews so that each feels they must talk to her in order to cover their, um, flank. Astonishingly, she got nine justices to give interviews, only two (O'Connor and Kennedy) on the record. She also made much use of Justice Blackman's papers which, it seems, contained the internal case memos circulated by the justices.

Investing in Real Estate Liens was a better book with more detail.

10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests

If you are serious about getting a good score on the LSAT, you need to buy this book (along with the other two 10 test booklets available). Make the time to take the 30 tests, even if you have to take one every day. The most important two things on the LSAT are: 1) Never be surprised by a question. 2) Have your timing down perfect. This book will allow you to see a variety of questions over the course of ten practice tests, and you will have your timing down by the end of the last test. I think this is a necessary buy for people who are truly competing for a strong LSAT score.
