I enjoyed this book and look forward to using it for a long time. As someone interested in learning about nutrition, I've found it easy to read and understand, but challenging to preset notions.

I've read several other pregnancy books written by doctors. I could tolerate them, they had helpful tips, there was a human being on the other side writing the book. But this is soo bad, soo medical, that if you can read even ten pages of this book you deserve an award. What is in this book that will actually make you healthy? It's called healthy pregnancy, what exactly are the health tips gained here?
I suppose if you completely buy into the medicalized way of birth, with nearly a 30% cesearan rate, 250,000 birth defects per year, of which about half are serious, 500,000 miscarriages and nearly 25,000 early infant deaths, then, please, get this book. You cannot get more filled with medical terminology and theories to confuse you and ... Read More:

Bought this for a friend who was having some health issues. Really cheered her up while she was waiting for her colonoscopy. this is NOT a big book... you can read it one, um, sitting. But it's informative and interesting, with some good laughs. What did I learn? One word: FIBER. It's the key to healthy poops.

I think this is a great book if you have a medical background - I'm just a yoga practicioner and wanted to know which muscles I'm using, what to pay attention to etc., I guess that's not really what the book is meant for.

It's a very interesting book. However I've been into reincarnation and searching for the spiritual meaning of life for so long I wonder why I bought this book. It's an excellent primer and if you're interested in the concept of reincarnation a great first to fifth book to read. And having been written by a psychiatrist, from Columbia no less, someone who was really never into past lives, it is even more exciting as it takes you along to his awakening as he is forced to drop his pre conditioning to admit that reincarnation is not only a possibility but according to his experience, a certainty.

This book is more than an amazing story of overcoming challenge for a young boy with so many problems as he finds his wonderous voice through a genus for music. More it is a story that will impact each and every person who reads it, Whether in response to this amazing true account of triumph and miracles, or tapping in to some place in us that thinks we "can't".
A great gift for anyone you love.

Wonderfully illustrated book makes it easy to understand which exercises are right for each muscle group. Very educational and also useful as a motivational tool. Only problem is its published and printed in France (written in English). Viva La Freedom Fries!

I accidentally stumbled upon Jerome Groopman's book, and picked it up figuring it might be worth reading. As a science researcher who's considered attending medical school, Dr. Groopman's book was insightful in confronting the many problems affecting physicians and medical schools today. After several chapters of meaningful stories, I came to chapter 5, `A New Mother's Challenge". I wish I had skipped this chapter.
Groopman begins by explaining the story of a woman, Rachel, who adopts a baby from Vietnam. This child is found with a severe immunodeficiency of unknown causes. Throughout the chapter, Groopman explains how Rachel, (whom we later find he met in their local synagogue), falls back on God and her faith throughout her new baby's ordeal. We later ... Read More:

this is a must have for MDs and pharmacists to treat any sort of infection. It has suggested treatments, doses, and durations. In addition, it has a section where microbes that are relatively uncommon and the drugs that treat them. It has renal dosages and common and severe side effects for the drugs. It also has a nice resources page for various items, including drugs that may prolong the QT interval, the CDC, AIDS, etc. I recommend getting the larger version, as sometimes I cannot see the small print.

I'm watching CNN Sunday morning, and every commercial seems to be for this book, so I read up on it. It really doesn't matter why a person started drinking to excess - what matters is: don't take the first drink. Speculating about underlying causes is akin to having a poison arrow in your side that needs to be removed, and you are wasting time trying to decide who shot the arrow, who made the shaft, feathers, what kind of bow it was shot from etc. Meanwhile the poison is killing you. (Thanks to the Buddha for this metaphor). The first thing is: don't take the first drink!!
