We went on a camping trip with a bunch of teenagers 16 & above and all it did was rain, so to pass the time, we took turns reading aloud, and just could not put this book down. You will not easily forget Delores, because she lives in many of us. You will not be disappointed with this book, we all loved it.

Jon Katz is one of my favorite authors. I read everything he writes and am always watching for a new book to be written. This latest book "Izzy and Lenore" is the best yet. I love how Jon shares his search for meaning and how he intergrated others into that search. As a medical social worker I was quickly drawn to his interest in working w/ the elderly and w/hospice pts and families. I started this book while on vacation and simply couldn't put it down. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL

I won't write a novel here, but I wanted to say a few things about this book. I have started countless self-help books over the years, only to get bored and never finish them. This is the first one that I have read cover to cover and it has made the most sense to me. Many of the situations and case studies he describes relate directly to me, and it made me feel like I was not alone in my self-esteem issues. A few times I was overcome with emotion, feeling like for the first time, someone truly understood how I felt, that I was not the only person in the world who processed thoughts this way, and was there to help me make changes that would improve my quality of life.
I highly recommend this workbook version (there is a regular ... Read More:

Good Calories, Bad Calories: Fats, Carbs, and the Controversial Science of Diet and Health (Vintage)This book is amazing. Applies critical thinking and the scientific process to shatter myths about food. Certainly has changed the way I look at my food choices. I recommend this read for anyone interested in eating healthy based on scientific fact rather than myths, hype, and misleading marketing.

This thorough and indispensible treatment of the structure of the English language should be in every writer's library, every home that intends to use correct English. Its arrangement and index are clear, its examples apt. I recommend it as a necessary extension of The Elements of Style by Strunk and White.

Atul Gwande's "Better: A Surgeon's Notes on Performance" is a collection of essays that probe skillfully and poignantly into the depths of medical ethics and the performance of doctors. He is a fine researcher and an astute observer who carefully delineates many facets of each issue that he explores, be it washing hands, malpractice concerns, or the Apgar score.
As a non-fiction writer, I was acutely aware of how adept Gawande is at using narrative to illustrate and discuss complex moral and ethical issues. He does not skirt controversial notions such as what happens to the soldiers who have been saved from grave injury on the battlefield and come home limbless and with horribly scared faces? Or why hospitals avoid publicizing the results of their ... Read More:

This is a nice book. The instructions are easy to follow and the text is interesting. The stories and recipes from other cheese makers are informative and inspirational. It's a good book for beginners. Many of the recipes are simple and require equipment you probably already have in your kitchen. It would have been better if the book was spiral bound - I like recipe books that will lay flat.
