A collection of essays on Bryson's experiences and views of America, sometimes annoyingly pretentious and pedantic (especially in the beginning), but more often clever, funny, and perfectly balanced between critical and appreciative of American culture. For me, part of the thrill is that Bryson is a local writer. Great, though slightly dated, but beautiful and humorous and original collection chronicling nature, American commercialism, American communities, and American personality and nostalgia. Grade: A-

THERE AREN'T ENOUGH STARS TO GIVE THIS BOOK. SIMPLY SAID THIS BOOK SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING FOR THE HUMAN RACE. WELL WRITTEN AND EASY TO READ, YOU CAN PROBABLY FINISH IT IN ONE OR TWO SITTINGS. BUT THE MESSAGE OF THE BOOK WILL STAY WITH YOU FOR A LIFETIME, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A WORKER AND LIKE DOING THINGS ON YOUR OWN.

Best Travel Activity Book

We drove 20 hours to Texas with a 5 and 10 year old - they watched DVDs played nintendo and also completed EVERY single page in this book and were sad to reach the end. Best money ever spent on an activity book. Book is fairly thick - maybe 50 pages - puzzles were to hard for 5 year old without help.

This deceptive book delighted me.... it is the perfect accompaniment to dreaming, with a coffee in a quiet corner of the garden, about your next visit to this beautiful city on the Seine.
It is small, and shows small places of rest and beauty in the bustling city, though the photographs and the text create a huge impression, which will challenge even those very familiar with Paris streets to return and to enjoy themselves in further discovery of its history.

My only problem with this item was the delivery method-super saver shipping with the USPS. It arrived in a long tube that had obviously been bent in half. The map itself was dented but not ripped. I chose not to get involved with the headache of dealing with USPS & Amazon to return the map. I can live with it. However, I would caution others to not think economics with this item. The other options may be more advantageous. And, if you have a mall nearby, take a drive and get it yourself.

This book is a great gift idea for someone who is a repeat visitor to Walt Disney World. It is not a general list of hidden mickeys, like hiddenmickeys.org, but is instead a game that you can play with others in your group.

Included are game rules for "Scavenger Hunt" and "non-Scavenger Hunt". Buy multiple books, and you can compare your Scavenger Hunt scores at the end of the day. You can also play non-Scavenger Hunt with your kids (or by yourself) while waiting in line. The book is easy to store in your pocket.

If you want to play Scavenger Hunt and don't have enough books, you can always purchase additional books (at full price, of course) in the parks.

My son is almost four. I got him this book a few months ago since he is obsessed with NYC subway system. We read it almost every day, sometimes several times. I enjoy telling him which systems I've been on (he interjects, for Barcelona he said he was there when he was uno), and he likes to look at all the different trains. Lots of fun and interesting for adults who enjoy city planning.

This is a fascinating story of an amazing quest. Besides the usual climbing heroics, close calls, and tragedies, I found the personal story of Viesturs' evolution wonderful. The story is very well told and we have Roberts to thank for that.

Even if you aren't that into mountaineering, you will love this book.
