Great insight into what is on the back roads in the US. We are from Australia and planning a road trip in the South and it has been incredibly useful for helping us see the "real" America. We have done all the big cities so now we want to hear music and talk to people who are "America". This book will let us do that.

This book is like reading letters from a college buddy on the road. It was really inspiring to hear about all of quirky yet helpful histories from around the world, giving a deeper layer to traveling. Love the little know histories, loved the shopping advice, just loved the fact that this book is written by a woman for women of all ages. Good job Stephanie!

I was excited to get this book a year ago and spent many delighted hours thumbing through it. We've gone to probably just shy of 25 of the places listed (all in the U.S). The kids have had the best time. There is a geographical index in the back that list the places by state or country location which is helpful. We've grouped together several listed activities into one trip. If you have an adventurous spirit, I think you'll love this book. This isn't the only travel book you'll ever need,either. While there is some very basic information on where to fly into and where to stay, it isn't enough to get by on. I think this book should be thought of more as an idea book rather than a travel guide.

This is one of the best guide of NYC that I ever used. If you plan to visit NYC, you have to buy it. You can find good restaurants, great tips and a lot of unique and uncrowded places to visit.

Cruise Confidential would be HIGHLY recommended to anyone who has been on a cruise or is thinking about a cruise vacation in the future.

The book goes into very revealing detail of the happenings below the water line, in the restaurants, on the decks, and warm tropical locales. Intrigue, crazy antics, misadventures, flitations, and sex are brought to life in the pages of this book. In reading this book I felt like I was actually going through the same battery of emotions the author was revealing to us. I really got caught up in so many of the situations captured in this wonderful tell all. With each turn of the page I kept on wanting more and more. I simply could not put the book down. I was impressed enough by INTO THIN AIR, his '97 account of the previous year's Everest climbing disaster, that picking up a used copy of EIGER DREAMS was a done deal. I didn't pay enough attention when buying it, however( at a local used bookstore) to learn that it was a compilation of climbing-related stories he'd previously published in 'Outside', 'New Age Journal' and 'Smithsonian'. I have nothing special against collections of previously published work. If I haven't read the material, what's the difference? But, as a writer myself, they always make me nervous somehow. The map is very nice. I am using it to teach my kids the continents and countries. It is an inexpensive and effective learning tool. The other positive is the map adds color to an otherwise plain wall.

My map was crushed during shipping. My 3 and 4 year-olds don't mind the creases. But if I were buying this for myself or as a gift, this would not be acceptable.

The map is very nice. I am using it to teach my kids the continents and countries. It is an inexpensive and effective learning tool. The other positive is the map adds color to an otherwise plain wall.
