I haven't bought a new one in years. This has amazing detail and information. Glad I purchased this one. The whole office has been using it.

This is a great book for kids who enjoy interactive creative reads. The extras are always nice to accompany these books. The Egyptology book was snapped up by my students and they loved it. It was quite enjoyable to them and they read more than they often do in books. The big eye was really interesting to them.

I have been a long-time fan of Tony Horwitz, and always look forward to his historic-based, quirky and entertaining books. A Journey Long and Strange: Rediscovering the New World follows his usual formula in traveling in the steps of history. In this case, he follows in the steps of America's early explorers.
While vacationing in New England, Horwitz visits Plymouth Rock (more like Plymouth Pebble, he laments). This former history major realized that what he didn't know about American's early explorers was a "chasm." He discovers that he "mislaid an entire century, the one separating Columbus's sail in 1492 from Jamestown's founding in 10-0-something." This story actually ends at Plymouth Rock, rather than begins.

This was given to me by a good friend. I love to cook, and over the years have struggled with South East asian, Thai in particular, cooking. But this book lays it all out in such a way, and has such clear instructions that, in combination with an asian grocery store, it is foolproof. As a bonus, the travelogues and side bars are wonderfully interesting. Even if you don't cook, you will be taken away on a wonderful culinary journey through the region.

The Streetwise Paris map is great. My friends and I just returned from a four-night stay in Paris and the map was always with us. All of the main sights and streets are clearly listed. The metro map is accurate and very useful. Also- this map features side-streets that the generic paper maps given to us by our hotel did not have. The map, which is brochure-sized,fit well in the deep front pockets of my cargo pants. Persons with difficulty reading smaller text may encounter some slight difficulty reading the names of streets, etc. on the map. (My eyes are pretty bad and I had no significant problems.) Persons complaining that this map is somehow "bad" must have mental issues of some ilk. Every rock, ridge and blade of grass in the city is not listed. For ... Read More:

It's sometimes a challenge to find gifts for mu husband's 87 year old mother, a devout charismatic Catholic with few material needs. Some are funny, some are thought provoking - a perfect gift to produce smiles to all.

As a Northwest transplant, I've always wondered why the storms out here are so very different from those in the midwest. Mass explains all of this in an accessible, easy to understand way. The illustrations are gorgeous, and the full-color graphics help the reader under the mechanics and movement of weather. I love the discussion of the historical floods (including the whopper in December 2006 that felt of hurricane intensity) and the chapter on how to "forecast" the weather on your own. This is a truly great weather and climate book -- straightforward yet complex, sober in its science yet exciting in its practical immediacy. I've already bought an extra copy for a friend for Christmas who is a committed weather buff.

Although international industry analyst firms aim to use similar methods when writing their research, winning sales recommendations still means connecting with the `go-to' analysts in national markets. I tend to recommend Kate Fox's book, Watching the English, to those trying to cross the cultural divide when briefing industry analysts here.
Fox is an Oxford-based anthopologist who is better known for her studies of English behavior at the race course and in the pub. It is popularly written, well structured and thoroughly researched. Fox goes deeper than the usual observations about Britain being, like Japan and France, a rather high context culture. She picks up three sets of attributes which might especially hamper those from low context cultures, ... Read More:
