I remember seeing a traditional La Fille a long time ago; I was bored stiff. But on the strength of the many 5 star reviews, I took a risk on this La Fille.

Do it! Like the Le Elisir d'amore with Netrebko and Villazon Donizetti - L'Elisir d'Amore / Eschwe, Netrebko, Villazon, Wiener Staatsoper, it takes middling music and makes it tremendous fun. Don't let the anachronistic setting (WW I?) scare you off; this is one of those cases where it works.

Dessay starts out as a near-manic, but her acting quickly turns the prosaic story into a dramatic hoot.

And then there's Florez' high C's: enough said.

I haven't seen the competing La Fille with Ciofi and Florez, but this one is simply too much fun. ... Read More:

Take a half dozen or so of Britain's funniest ladies and the comic writing genius French and Saunders and voila you have Clatterford. This has comedy that is right in your face and some a little bit more subtle. You will laugh until you cry....

I adore Hugh Laurie. House is one of my favorite TV shows and I loved his portrayal of Bertie Wooster. So I ordered this sight unseen. HL's in it, it's gotta be great, right? Wrong. The "humor" is grotesque and unfunny and the story is totally unsatisfying. What a waste of Emma Thompson, too. I think this is the worst British movie I've ever seen.

Hello I bought this simply because it has dawn french init,
and I wasn't disapointed it was very funny and dawn french is amazing in this as she is in the vicr of dibley she is so funny and cute :)
but definitly worth watching if you want to laugh it is extremely funny

The DVD is just a presentation where a speaker talks about different shows of the British Comedy. I was expecting to see a presentation and then the complete shows, but instead they are just small parts (a few seconds) of the mentioned shows.

I bought this dvd set and frankly it isn't very funny. I love Ab FAb, The Vicar of Dibley, Tracey Takes On, the Catherine Tate Show, Clatterford....I appreciate the the slightly darker humor and wit of these shows.
Girls On Top is very 80's in its humor, feeling dated and stale..Jennifer Saunders' character is played with a monotone, flat delivery that threatens to go unnoticed. Tracey Ullman is over the top and annoying. (As a huge Tracey Ullman fan it is hard to watch her clod her way through each scene.) Dawn French carries the weight of the show, but the scripts are pretty bad....I was bored by the predictable plots...i have not been able to watch more than 3 episodes, unfortunately I bought both sets 1 and 2.
