This is actually Sue, Ken's wife, & I bought this for a trip to Oklahoma, that my daughter-in-law, & my 2 grandsons & I were going to be taking. It worked out great! It was very easy to use, & was very helpful when it came to some road construction & we had to make some detours. Also, we were stopping around St. Louis at my daughter's, & it was right after Hurricane Ike had blown through, & there were some water problems, with flooding, so we had to find some alternate routes because of that. So, that came in handy there as I certainly don't know that area at all!! Ken & I also took it recently to Schererville, Ill. for a wedding, & it took us right to the hotel where we were staying; was really nice.

I bought it for my road trip from California to Washington and it worked like a charm. Its boot time is relatively fast and the software is very intuitive and easy to use.

The only downside was that it doesn't have good reception in high building area; the processing became slow and a teeny bit inaccurate when I used it in Seattle downtown (hence minus 1 star, although it should be just 1/2 or maybe 1/8). However, in the end I managed to arrive at my destination without much difficulty.

The package came with all equipment needed to use in a car, so I don't need to buy more. For $199, I don't think it can get better than Garmin nüvi 360. It's not an overstatement to say that it exceeded my expectation.

Pros: This unit acquires and keeps satellite signals. Its display is clear in bright sunlight. The built in voice is clear and audible with with music on and windows up. The night map colors & brightness are easy on the eyes.

Cons: It has given erroneous directions multiple times. It figures out decent routes. The problem occurs in implementation. It will tell you to bear left when the exit is on the right on a Interstate junction. On U.S.24 (Telegraph Rd.)it will tell you to turn right when you need to perform an median turnaround. In both cases the directions it suggested were the way you eventually wanted to get, however it doesn't take into account what you need to stay on pavement and keep it legal.

The Garmin nuvi 660 is a great product. If you can find it , since it is discontinued, you will find it also at a great price. The Bluetooth feature is a plus.

I'm not a novice with GPS units, have 2 other Garman products. My requ
irement was to find a GPS map navigator with a big screen, and the capability for an external antenna. This unit for my wife's car works great. It has a super sensitive receiver to pick up GPS satellites, and acquires all signals only after a few minutes when after installed and turned on. I probably do not need the external antenna for everyday use, unless you want to mount the unit inside the car away from the windows. The touch screen is self evident to use. So far, I'm very pleased. The map library seems sufficient, so far, and I'll be able to download maps of Ireland, Sweden and Europe, when I go there.

Before buying the Garmin 260 I printed maps on Google or MapQuest and often was directed into places / onto streets that didn't exist. At that point you have a piece of paper with no bearing on where you are or how to get to your destination. Although no absolutly %100 perfect, the Garmin has been very accurate, only failing me 2 or 3 times in the first month when routing me on small rural gravel roads or on roads that were proposed as part of a subdivision but never put in. In both of those cases Google Maps and MapQuest had the same flawed data but with the Garmin despite the flaw at least i still knew where i was and could easily let it recalculate. After 3 long trips to unknown destinations, I can say that this model is pretty good deal for its price.
it gives accurate directions, prompts when its time to turn or take an exit and does its job pretty well.
Sometimes it does take forever to find a public place or a restaurant.
Its not google...but it does it job accurately, for the bargain.
Definitely a must have gadget for your car.

Garmin nüvi 760 Portable GPS Automobile Navigator

Don't get me wrong. I love this GPS. But the reason I bought the 760 was to get an MP3 player that supports SD cards. I'm tired of lugging around my expensive CD collection and wanted to leave the CD's at home and bring my music along on SD cards. For some unknown reason, MP3 players NEVER support external memory.

All I can say is that I hope Garmin someday pays as much attention to the MP3 player as they did to the GPS, because the MP3 player is crap.

Can you imagine a music player that insists on playing Sgt. Pepper in alphabetical order? Or if you say you want to hear some Beatles, it gives you a list of every song from every Beatle album, in ALPHABETICAL ORDER? The guy who wrote this thing either has a tin ear, or he's some teenager who get's all his music ... Read More:

Garmin Nuvi 255W 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

I am a service technician for a national security company. My route includes D.C and Maryland. My front seat always had a milk crate loaded with maps for these areas. I decided to purchase a GPS to make my life easier and it has made a huge difference. I no longer have to look at the maps and pull off to the side of the road. GPS is great. I looked at every GPS out there and had gotten many good comments about Garmins ease of use. After deciding on the model (nuvi 255w) i will say i am very pleased. However i will also like to mention that on my model(may just be my GPS) when i want to change from one state to another i have to unplug it to reset it. GARMIN 010-00657-00 Nuvi 770 Travel Assistant

I've only had my 770 for a week, and its going back for a replacement.
The audio instructions are sometimes so late that I miss the turn. I've been less than 2 car lengths from the intersection before the audio says "turn right on 32nd ave" and sometimes I'm half way through executing the turn before the audio instructions comes on. The way the audio work, I have to read the screen rather than rely on the audio, not something you want to do in traffic. The audio on my wifes Magellan works like I would expect a GPS to. I'm hoping I simply have a defective unit.
