After buying and using the Edge 605 and reading some of the negative reviews I can't help wondering if we are using the same unit. I can only surmise that some of these people didn't spent enough time researching before buying and learning how to use the device.

1. It is true that detailed route maps (City Navigator) will cost you an extra $85-$100. This has always been true of Garmin GPSr (except the auto units) mainly because many customers don't want (hikers, hunters) these or already have the maps on DVD (like me) that are being used with other Garmin GPSr. Garmin also has different types of mapsets: City, Topo, Marine, etc. So the customer has the option of choosing which maps they want. it will get you there. it may sometimes tell you to turn an incorrect direction but it will alway re-direct you to the right location.

I've used one of these GPS units for the past couple of years, and have used several others including the III+ and the eTrex and the GPS 12 is by the the winner if you want a unit that will hold the satellites when you are travelling through dense trees and foliage. It is a great unit that is simple to use and program, if you want a solid performer this is it.

I was using an older Garmin Mapping software with the Edge 705 GPS/HRM for my bicycle. I have logged over 2000 miles this summer. Using the old software the navigation was terrible. GPS was indicating me on the road, but the routing software would indicate that would have to travel back to the road that I was already on.

When I upgraded the mapping software, all the navigation issues were resolved. Even when I deviate from my basic route, by taking a side street or extending my ride, the software recalculates quickly and informs me how to get back on the route by the next intersection, a very nice feature. StreetPilotU c550 Mobile GPS Receiver

The Garmin C550 is awesome. I've had mine for a few years now. Flew it to Nebraska, rented a car to get around Lincoln, took a trip to Branson Missouri and never got lost. Just put in the address and GO.

Only a few times I've had problems with it. One turn on the unit was too far down the road and into a field. Streets that have bends in them are sometimes considered TURNS. I think it's a matter of mapping and not the unit.

As with any mapping or location device, it's a tool and to be used along with common sense.

New maps come out periodically on DVD and the menu softwares are upgradeable through Garmins website for free.

SkyCaddie SG1 Golf GPS (Dark Blue)

After 3 rounds using the SG1, I was pleased to have this in my bag. It's pretty accurate and it does make club selection easier. But I had some issues with the GPS unit, the mark/lock button stopped working. So I called SkyCaddie the next day and they sent a replacement unit out the same day. I've used SG1 for several rounds and though it's an older model, it still served its purpose. If you don't want to spend too much money for the newer models, try the SG1 before they run out.

I took a chance on this having no reviews yet. That was a huge mistake.
1. It will only charge when the car is running and mine would not hold a charge more than 60 sec. and it would turn off.
2. You don't get a USB cable so it can charge in the house.
3. They don't have tech support for this as it is the bottom of the line. I did get a guy to talk to me who told me mine was a dud and to order up a few models.
4. I tried to set it to take me home and it missed each turn and told me after we passed the street that now I needed to turn.
5. this one had no instruction manual in the box. there is a quick start card but it tells you nothing about how to assemble the mount and attatch the unit. You have to download it at the site.
