We purchased this unit especially for the large screen. As to previous comments: The manual is cursory at best and no additional information is available on their web site. The manual does state that you should moisten the suction cup before installing, and that you should allow the unit to actually rest on the dash. Following these instructions, we have never had the unit come loose, even on bumpy mountain gravel roads. There has never been a problem with overheating, and wrong turns have been minimal. As previously stated, it does get you there.

Brunton 15TDCL Compass

The Silva Ranger type 15 used to be a very good compass, They changed it and is now an absolute joke. This Brunton Nexus Elite is the same as the old Silva Ranger type 15 and is an excellent compass. The person who rated it and complained that it was not digital does not know enough about a compass to be buying one in the first place.(Does it even remotely look digital?) I have done forestry work for a long time and I would take this compass anywhere. Very accurate for somebody that knows how to use a compass.

Nextar Q4-01 Portable car navigator

Just got this and took it on a test run today. It was great. User manual is easy to follow and it's ready to go out of the box. I threw it a few curves on the trip and it recalculated the route in 3 to 5 seconds. The street announcements were clear, the mile markers accurate, and it was very easy to use. You can mount it on the windshield or the dash very easily. It comes with everything you need, except earphones for the MP3, which is not a big deal for me, since I'm electronically challenged and don't like a lot of gadgets. If I can use this with no outside help, anyone can use it. It's great for those of you just trying one out with not a lot of frills - just a good, accurate little system for a great price.

Pros: Being able to have it integrated on the Smart Phone
Cons: Inaccurate Maps (we are talking miles not feet!), Difficult of use, cumbersome menus, lack of POI's, Wrong POI locations, crashes often and the list goes on....

This software should be labeled a beta software until the company works out all its problems, it should be never compared to Garmin or Magellan, I owned both and it does not even come close.
I will start with the pros since it will take the least time to mention.

Pros: Convenience of having a Navigation loaded on your phone, the GPS receiver can be left in the vehicle except when you are hiking for example.

A very poorly made product. The screen freezes and the system shuts down and then you are left at the mercies of the heaven. The Michelin guys wont help you out either and you cannot return it.

My Rino 520 is almost the most awesome electronic gadget I've ever purchased. The 2-way radio works great - better speaker sound and range than any other radio I've owned. Almost great GPS with the color screen and optional topo mapping. User friendly interface. Above all the location feature of a fellow user is the killer asset. If the unit worked perfectly I would highly recommend anyone to buy it. But I must add my agreement to previously mentioned issues:

My screen goes blank occasionaly. Comes back on after a power off-on cycle then sometimes will stay on long term, sometimes requires another off-on cycle.

The optional topo map usually shows some incredible detail about very obscure roads, but yet hasn't been updated to a major highway ... Read More:

With the acquisition of the TomTom One, I now have GPS navigation systems from all three major companies. The TomTom One stands up to both the Garmin Nuvi and the Magellan Maestro, although its pros and cons are quite different.

I like that you merely have to tap the screen anywhere to get the menu. This unit has a wealth of options, including several voices and languages for spoken directions and route types, including limited speed and bicycle routes. You can use "map correction" for quick GPS pick-up if it shows you in the wrong location (good for when you've been in motion without using it.) Magellan RoadMate 300 GPS Portable Navigator

I called Magellan about updating the maps, and they said this unit is going to be discontinued and it is impossible to update it. I'd have to trade it in for a new one. So they wanted me to pay $200 after trading this unit in. If you call Magellan and are stubborn enough, they should be able to work out sending you a free Maestro (which they are for me). Cause I bought the Roadmate 300 like last November and they are telling me it is getting discontinued already?!?!

So BUYER BEWARE... SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME- DON'T BUY THIS simply because its getting discontinued and maps can't be upgraded from what I'm told! Spend an extra $60 from the used prices of this one and get a Maestro.. they seem to be great!
