I bought this product to use with my boat and because the features made me believe it had all the lakes. After opening the box I discovered the lakes where I live are not included! I HAVE FOUND THIS UNIT TO HAVE VERY AVERAGE BATTERY LIFE. WE AR UNABLE TO POWER THE UNIT UP AFTER ANY PERIOD. OTHER COLLEAGUES HAVE MAGELLANS AND SEEM VERY SATISFIED.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS UNIT AND WOULD SUGGEST ANOTHER MANUFACTURER.
CHECK OUT OTHER UNITS BEFORE YOU COMMIT CASH

This is the third Garmin in our family. We have an 880 and an 250. This is the slowest to load maps at start-up, slowest to acquire a satellite at start-up and slowest to re-draw the map when the car makes a turn (I've already completed the turn before it begins re-drawing)...this is a very disappointing unit. To test a theory that it may not be the unit, I purchased an antenna extension and temporarily installed it outside the car; this had no affect in speeding up the problems listed above, thus telling me it was clearly the unit and not a poor satellite connection.

I contacted Garmin who informed me that they are aware of the problems and should be sending a software update shortly. That was 2 weeks ago.

GARMIN 010-00364-01 Foretrex 101 GPS Receiver

I don't know if my specific product was defective or if it was a design flaw, but the "weak signal" symbol and accompanying beep were constantly coming up. I had intended to use this during mountain biking, but it would not keep accurate distance. I even tested it while driving, where I could compare the odometer reading in my car with the odometer on the GPS. Still, the Foretrex was significantly lower than the actual mileage.

I received the GPS sooner than estimated and it has performed up to my expectations. It powers up quickly and after using it for over a month it has been accurate over the trails in both distance and elevations. I definitely recommend it.

The only reason I did not rate it a 4 is the Garmin MapSource Topo U.S. 2008 did not come with it, but I knew that when I purchased it. After installing the Topo U.S. it will be a solid 5.

Garmin StreetPilot 2720 Portable GPS Navigator

I bought this model as a refurb for $300 a few years ago. I still have it. I have also, in that time, had a Magellan 700 (which died), a Tom Tom One 3rd. Ed., a Magellan 2200T, and a recently purchased Garmin 680.

They all work and each has its positive points. The 2200T has the best suction cup mount by far, the TomTom lets you add map corrections, and the 680 has mp3 and bluetooth.

However, if you just want the best, easiest to use gps, the old Garmin 2270 is it. It has a superb bean-bag mount, a brilliant display, a remote control, test-to-speech, great sound (the 680 is a joke by comparison) wonderful trip planning, and you can still get map updates for it. I bought this unit a couple of weeks ago and played at one of my local courses .The gb left out the tree in the middle of the fairway. I was a little bummed but thought I`d try another course, well that wasn`t so good also . I was standing at the 100 marker on a par five and it was telling me I was at 120. Well as you know that can`t happen so back to the skycaddie 2.
