I bought two of these actually a bit over 20 yrs. ago. My brother's needed replacing last year so I bought a Cuisinart which barely grinds the coffee now in less than a year. What a waste of money! My own Krups needs replacing now because the blades have become dull but it is still running. I'm amazed at some of the negative reviews. And yes, we drink lots of coffee so these little machines have had quite a workout. I plan on buying another Krups so I hope they still make them like they used to!
I received this product as a gift, as the salesperson promised that it would work great for grinding spices. It doesn't. Uneven grinding, not catching some of the spices that sit on the bottom, and others spray to the top of the cover where the blades cannot reach, and if you have to use it for longer periods of time it heats up and blanches the flavor out of the spices. The plastic top has cracked and pieces broken off so many times (but continues to partially snap into place) that the spices spray everywhere when used.
I do not use this for coffee grinding, therefor I cannot give a review as to it's performance for which it is originally intended. This is only for those who do a lot of spice grinding.
I read a lot of reviews before deciding on this machine. There are modifications you can make to get a finer grind but the design must have been updated as it provides an extremely fine grind at the finest setting. The burs heat up and if you don't let it cool as per the instructions it will affect taste.

I bought this after reading the rave reviews. I have been using a refurb Cuisinart burr grinder which I use for drip (melitta type) w/ a paper cone. The grind I get from the Cuisinart is uniformly fine & the coffee is excellent. But since it's kind of falling apart, I thought I'd spring for the extra money for the Kitchenaid. What a disappointment!! The finest grind has larger grains interspersed w/the fine grains. Moreover, it simply stopped working altogether after I used it 3 times!! I called Kitchenaid customer service who asked if I used oily beans as if that was some kind of cardinal sin. If a Kitchenaid can't handle oily beans and a cheapie Cuisinart can, well then Kitchenaid needs to go back to the drawing board. Needless to ... Read More:
I love this grinder. Got it two years ago for Christmas and the coffee is so, so, so much tastier than the kind my old entry-level Krups grinder generated. In addition to the better taste of the beans, I also really love the fact that you can set the number so you don't have to measure the beans. I've stopped going to Starbucks and I don't really miss it. I don't use the grinder for espresso, just coffee. Really strong, tasty, coffee, made in my Capresso brewer. Yum! I'm writing in today because I was really shocked by all the negative reviews.
I purchased this factory grinder from an on line clearing house at a good price for about the cost of a blade grinder. I have had it three months and it replaced a Hamilton Beach blade unit I had for some 30 plus years. I love the unit. Yes there is a very small amount of grinds that collect from static but if you want glass and no static, you should have purchased a more expensive unit. IF one taps the collector before taking off the lid, most the static grinds come loose and yes, one has to clean it out maybe once a week. This grinder does what I need, and at a very competitive price. I think some of the reviewers want a high end product for middle pricing.
I bought this because I grind my own oat and flax. This doesn't grind as fine as I would like. It says not to go past 25 sec in grinding at one time. It also says not to start and stop. So what I do is grind it for 25 sec let it rest and go again three times. This does make the grain much finer. Another reason I love this one is the plastic doesn't get chipped in the grinding of grain. My old black and decker did and when that happens you are getting plastic into your food.
Other coffee grinders the cover is on the inside of the grinder. Because of that after grinding so many times the plastic starts to chip off into your food. The cover on this on is on the outside so the grain or coffee beans does not hit against the plastic. The cylinder that ... Read More:
