The Peugeot pepper and salt mills have a beautiful gloss finish that is a rich none yellow mustardy color, they call this curry. The color in the picture does not do these mills justice. The mills themselves are about 22 cm tall or 8.75 inches tall the metal knobs are not a significant part of the height, being that they blend in so well with the contours of the mill, but they are part of this measurement. They measure about 19 cm/ 7.5 inches around at the base our 5.5 cm from edge to edge, the diameter. I've loved fresh ground black pepper for a long, long time. I use a lot of it - generally enough to raise eyebrows from heathens that don't know the pure love of Pepper hehe.

It always bugged me how long you'd have to grind grind grind to get a decent amount of pepper on your dish. It'd take forever and sometimes I'd just give up and settle for less than I wanted.

Along those lines, ever had a recipe call for 2 TBS of fresh ground black pepper? Holy Cow! Talk about some marathon grinding! It'd be tough to get to the mark and super annoying because I'd just as soon add extra pepper most of the time.

THIS pepper mill solves both of those problems and has an added 'stop annoying me' benefit too.

My husband has wanted one of these ever since he saw Alton Brown with one. I finally broke down and bought it for him. I have to admit, I love it. We use sea salt and kosher salt, and the containers they come in make it very hard to get a "pinch" of salt. This server makes getting a pinch or a teaspoon so easy! Plus it looks nice on the table.

My only wish is that it was easier to keep the stainless steel lid clean and free of fingerprints.

Love this little Pepper mill. Some people have written that the peppers fall out of the opening, but, if you place your one hand under the opening when turning then you don't have that problem. Highly recommend this!!!! Nothing like fresh pepper. The little tray to place the unit in is a nice touch.

Mario Batali Salt Cellar

I loved the design of this salt cellar and bought two (thinking I would have one always near the stove and one for the dinner table). While I do still love the design (enough to come back to replace one), the inherant problems with wood in a kitchen is splitting due to the grain - 1 has split and 1 is perfect.

Weight is perfect for one-hand use and holds about 1/2 cup on bottom and less than 1/4 cup on top... perfect for iodized salt and kosher salt at hand. LOVE the magnet closure.

I love this design enough to give 4 out of 5 stars and repurchase, because I can't really fault the manufacturer for wood's tendency to split and I am in very-dry-Colorado.

I have to turn the top until my arm gets tired to get the desired amount of salt out of it! I'm going to try the Peugeot salt grinder; their pepper grinder is excellent!

These seemed surprisingly small out of the box. They are cute, but I can't believe I paid 25 beans for these. They're worth maybe 10, and that's even a stretch.
