I bought this for the sole purpose of melting cheese for homemade mac & cheese and it works beautifully. The design is elegant and sturdy. It cleans up like a dream...even after melting notoriously sticky cheese! It stacks and stores neatly in one piece as well. It's deeper than I expected and held 16 oz of shredded cheese, 4 oz of cream cheese, 4 oz of velvetta and 12 oz of evaporated milk with no problem at all, leaving plenty of room to stir without making a mess. I will definitely get a lot of use out of this! If a double-boiler is what you are looking for, you can't go wrong with this one.

I would have been delighted with this double boiler insert (despite the groove noted by previous reviewers) if it had performed as expected. I own three All-Clad LTD pots I should have been able to use it with : 3 quart, 4 quart and 5 quart. The insert doesn't fit the pots precisely or snugly; it slips and tips when set onto the pots. Obviously, this makes it unsafe as well as unusable. Since I agree with some reviewers that the qualty is inferior to All-Clad products produced in the USA, I guess it may be that the items produced in China are not really a good match with the original items produced before recent globalization of the company. Metro 2-Quart 18/8 Stainless Steel Double Boiler

I never used a real double-boiler before, always just placing a smaller pot into the boiling water of a larger one. I bought this item to try to cook in a more civilized manner. Well, maybe it's me, but I can't seem to get it to cook at all. I experimented with the lower pot's water low, high, medium, and the same with the flame. But the sauce in the smaller pot remains cold.

The DB spits water all over the stove, even at the lowest water/flame level. Not so civilized after all.

The silver lining is that I now have two saucepans and one lid that I did not have before. I am sure they will come in handy.

I guess the joke was on me. I assumed that a lid would be included, but I guess that cost extra, or has to be purchased separately. I returned the item, because I didn't own any lids that fit this particular pot. And I wasn't about to go treasure hunting in my city to obtain one. Next time I'll be sure a lid is included before I buy.

I bought this for far cheaper than it's offered here, and I don't think it was worth the money. It's an innovative idea for a double boiler, but the craftsmanship is fairly shoddy - after a few uses it sprung a leak in the handle and was therefore useless (especially on an electric range).
Better off buying a traditional double boiler, or getting some silicone...

This product is exactly what we have been searching for. Heavy Duty, Easy to clean,Comfortable Handles and Tight fitting lids. As with all Stainless Steel you must adjust you cooking method to a lower heat setting. As long as you keep that in mind you will love this cookware.As a matter of fact we loved it so much that we purchased every single piece of Multiclad Pro Stainless that Cuisinart makes. WE JUST LOVE IT!!

Great cooking tool. My only warning is, it is much bigger than it looks (almost a full foot across at the wings). You're going to need a wide pan to use this with!
