Does a nice job of slicing, peeling and coring apples that are fairly evenly shaped all the way around. Not so good at all three operations when the apple is not evenly shaped. Had to remove them from the peeler and do them by hand....which were quite a few. Also need to continually check the alignment of the slicer/corer to make sure they were in line with the feed arm otherwise it can be easily bent out of shape. Haven't tried it yet with potatoes.
This knife is very sharp and comfortable to use. The handle doesn't seem to be the fibrox like the 8" chef's knife, it has a little less "grip" to it, but it shouldn't be a problem even if your hands are a little wet. For $5, I'd definitely recommend this knife. As someone who enjoys cooking, but doesn't want to spend a fortune on her hobby, this line of knives is perfect. They are so much sharper and thinner (but not flimsy) than others I have bought which makes kitchen tasks a breeze. It really makes me want to cook more when I have tools like this that work so well.
I bought this peeler based on the Cook's Ill. recommendation. It works very well, but it took me a while to get used to its weight. I do like the big handle, which fits my hands well. While I usually like utensils with good heft and a solid feel, it feels odd in a peeler.
I normally am a fan of OXO products, but this one is just to flimsy. I bent the flat steel between the handle and the disk the second time using it, now it's in the trash.
My wife had used it maybe a dozen times before me, so maybe for a gentle person it would be fine.
Definitely better than Microplane in its shape (slightly rounded) and its sharpness (hide your knuckles). Also love the fact that the end you place on the counter/cutting board is rubber coated to prevent slippage. Only drawback is the plastic handle: it's too short (and I have little hands!), and the plastic is cheezy and uncomfortable. A lot of my utensils are Good Grips, and you really come to rely on and appreciate the heft, girth and comfort of their handles.
It has a nice heft to it. The grip is very grippy and comfortable. It looks great. It peels mangos like a dream. It has an easy, effortless, and very smooth cutting action. It works beautifully. The blade must be pretty sharp to do that. Definitely a high quality tool. I love luxury. This is yet another thing for living my luxurious lifestyle. I buy no junk. I do very high quality work and I lead the field in my own business. Conversely I demand very high quality products for my high end lifestyle. It's first class all the way around for me!
I like the design with the raised handles, but the cutting edge is flush with the plastic frame so the apples don't get get cut cleanly all the way through to the bottom. That means you need to turn the tool over and push the partially cut pieces through individually.
For that reason alone, it's no faster than cutting and coring with a paring knife, but it's a good alternative. I use it to give my cutting hand a rest.
I almost didn't buy this set because I figured I'd have no use for a gimmicky curved knife and a serrated blade, I only wanted the normal paring knife, but the set was only a little bit more expensive than an individual paring knife. As it turns out I use the curved knife more than any other knife I own, and the serrated one more than the normal paring knife- I was fully prepared to hide those two knives in the back of my drawer and never look at them again, but they are really great. I'm sure you can get better knives somewhere, but not at anything remotely close to this price. I am pretty picky about knives, and Forschner's are definitely the best I have used. I also strongly recommend the 8 inch chefs knife. I guess the best way to sum up ... Read More:
I was a bit concerned that the core would stick in the tool, but it was easy to dislodge. It is really great to be able to core an apple and use it whole.
