I started reading this magazine in the early 90's, when I was a kid. My dad had a few from the 60's and 70's, and I have expanded my collection since then to include a good amount from the 80's. That stuff was brilliant.

Artists die, we know that. New artists and writers can be good, but the MAD magazine of the 2000's isn't worth buying. Why did MAD start putting in ads? Wasn't it making enough money by itself? I loved MAD for the fact that it was ad-free, and the brilliant writing and artwork, laced with biting satire. Now, the humor in there is more of the "potty humor" level, and is the kind of thing juveniles laugh over.

Mad magazine has never been shy about recycling material, and this 'very best of our worst stuff from past issues' is another example.

Many of the targets of Mad's satire are blockbuster movies and top-rated TV shows, so you'll appreciate the jokes only if you are a moviegoer and TV fan. That also means that, in this Classics edition, it's last season's shows that are being spoofed, so some of the edge is lost.

As always with Mad, the illustrations are often great, the text often not. It's mostly visual humor. Rating it is difficult; it's 5-star if it happens to be your taste in humor, 1-star if it doesn't. I gave it 5 stars because, although I didn't get a lot of laughs out of it, I can see that many readers would. ... Read More:
