This is the only magazine that I receive that I read cover to cover, then bring to school for my students to read. The articles are short enough to hold your attention but long enough to tell you what you need to know. In every issue there are several articles that are fantastic and the rest are very good, more than you can say for the average magazine!

Scientific American is a monthly magazine written to anyone comfortable with the scientific lingo on any of a wide range of research subjects. It shows what's going on at the forefront of science breakthroughs and what they could mean in the marketplace when completed.It offers a periscope view of these topics written by the people doing the research, in as clear and communicative a way as can be. Every issue boggles the mind, is actually an understatement.

Scientific American Mind

I've been subscribing to SciAm Mind for about a year now and have been reading it at the bookstore for a couple of years. I'm a layperson, no medical training or professional background in dealing with these topics, I just have a personal interest.

While I enjoy a good bit of the magazine, I typically find myself frustrated at how it seems as though they only have a few people submitting articles. Unfortunately I don't have a copy on hand, but there's one guy (?) with a name that's about a mile long, and by the time I've finished the magazine, I'm sick of seeing his name and reading his often less-than-thrilling diatribes.

I'll likely continue subscribing to SciAm Mind because I do feel like I get something out of it, but ... Read More:

In the weeks leading up to the 2008 election Science News editors have unfortunately embraced political reporting. 'In The Public Interest' type articles have appeared supporting presidential candidate Barack Obama. While I am certainly no fan of the aging John McCain, I, like many like me, did turn to Science News to escape the electioneering of paternalistic editors, however, this option is no longer available. Aren't candidates promises and comments simply made to win elections? Why hard science editors want to wade into this morass is beyond me.

I gave this magazine as a gift, and also received a subscription as a gift. I can't tell...is it the packaging? The ho-hum articles? I don't know. I had such high hopes for a great-quality magazine that would increase my environmental awareness and encourage me in my small attempt to live green. Alas, I've been disappointed and I won't renew.
