C&D was once entertaining, witty, objective and a great read. The staff worked well together and they put out a consistently good magazine. Then it went through some rough years where it got kind of tame and boring. Now, it's an ill fitting mix of new and old writers trying to be fresh and hip while being spoon fed by the car manufactures. The magazine lacks consistency, focus and any sort of clear vision as to what they're about.
C&D mostly seems to print what the biggest manufactures want them to. There have been several articles lately, such as on the new Nissan GT-R and Corvette ZR1, that literally mirror articles in other magazines even featuring some of the same quotes from the same car execs. You might as well go to the manufacture's ... Read More:

Motor Trend is a rather good, well written car magazine for auto enthusiasts. The articles are timely and full of facts and opinions about cars, new hybrids and the like. The quality of the paper is quite good and the print is always easy to read as well.
The cover "story" makes for a big splash but it's not sensationalism: the magazine backs it all up with a beefy article exploring the car, SUV or other vehicle in detail. The articles are peppered with well shot photos that enhance your understanding of what the article is trying to tell the reader.
There are ads and articles for a diversity of people; this month's issue, for example, has an article on the latest Bentley coming out. I suppose that's for the rich. SMILE On the other ... Read More:

I've read them all. Automobile is the best US car magazine. If you want even better ones, EVO and CAR are superior, but your going to have to pay to have them imported from the Brits.

Hachette Filipacchi Media has horrible customer service. Several months ago, they mailed me a renewal offer for $10 for 24 issues (2-years) which I submitted with a personal check. They cashed in my check and I checked my account online only to discovered they only renewed it for 12 more issues. I emailed them and was told that they have lots of offers and only one for $10/12-issues. I sent them my offer code and even scanned a copy of the letter I received, but they would not honor their own offer and claimed that they had a 24-issue offer for $12.00. Notwithstanding, it took on average 3-4 days before I would get a reply. I did not even bother calling them because it was long-distance and I was sure I'd be placed on hold longer than I'd like. After weeks of communication, ... Read More:

Sure it's glossy and the articles are short, but when I just want to know the high level of what's happening in the world of bikes, it does the job. I wouldn't want to know anything about the 250cc bikes, for example, but they toss in so much information and good photography that I can't help but learn a little more about things I didn't set out to know. If you just want a quick page turner this is a good choice. If you want sexy and cutting edge, the go for the $$$ British mags. Both are good, but this one is cheap and cheerful.

You can tell the editors are enjoying themselves writing about the cars and culture they love, and this makes for a fun read. You won't find tired cliches that seem to run rampant in other, larger auto magazines, like "an over-eager right foot." Lots of cool and highly customized cars to dream about, and plenty of useful features for enthusiasts on a budget.
Oh man this is a fantastic magazine!! Since the price of gas went up, I've been riding more and more. This magazine keeps me up on all the latest. Highly recommended. I've ridden over 100,000 miles and close to 40 years and ALWAYS learn something new from this magazine.
I have subscribed to F1 Racing for several years and it is a great mag if you are an F1 fan. Peter Windsor and sometimes Steve Matchett of Speed TV are contributors along with a several other petrol heads who seem have access to F1 insiders and produce lots of detailed articles about the drivers and personalities of F1 and what they get up to at the races and away from the race tracks of the world. In addition there are lots of technical articles about the cars and the teams technical staff. The writing is not simply the official press release soundbites you get on F1 web sites, but detail interviews and stories by the writers themselves having spent some time, often quite a few days with the person being storied. Most of the articles are about the present or pre-season but there are ... Read More:
