A writer's toolbag contains bits of information collected from various sources. While writing, he reaches into the toolbag to extract a tool. If during the collection process he gathered good and useful tools, he will have a resource that will propel his work. If he has collected crap, he'll pull out crap and his work will reflect that.

yeah , to be intellectually honest it has an agenda (it's difficult to find a balanced publication , if not impossible) , but there is too much to recommend for me not to cast a vote in favor .

of course, we all know the new yorker is one of the best magazines ever, and i started receiving it within 3 weeks! and i expect i will get my full 2 years of magazines!

The Nation is a great publication that has featured the works of scholarly writers such as Eric Alterman, Barbara Ehrenreich, Noam Chomsky and Norman Mailer. Though the issues addressed and the opinions expressed are often labeled as leftist, this magazine nonetheless contains some very thought-provoking nuances and propositions for a better America that sound intelligent.

Though many are outraged about some of the stances that the editors and contributors of The Nation have taken, their retorts often fall short of being strong, tangible, clearly expressed responses. this magazine is usually well received among progressive activists although many of us had a major problem with some coverage in the past. i won't get to it at this time but i must say that the last one i've read (?May/June edition) had a very good coverage in the issue of the prison industrial complex, putting human faces behind all the build up of prisons, the absurd increase in the prison population in the U.S. by far leading in the incarceration of our people, young and old alike, the racist system we still live in, etc. also, the coverage for the issue of foreclosure was very thorough and finally shed some light on my questions regarding the reasons why, and who is responsible for this mess. check it out.
