Motor Trend is a very good car magazine. About 15-20 years ago, it was only "fair" in comparison to Car and Driver, and, Automobile. Now, it is a good, largely objective mag. As stated in prior reviews, there is some subjectivity; however, all car magazines I have read do have SOME objectivity -- we do want their opinions. They do test high-end autos (Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari, etc.); but, that probably comprises only 10% of their tests. If you really want to read about high-end cars, read Road and Track. Know that the 4 American car magazines prefer sporty driving and handling autos of all types. Generally, if the car is not reasonably quick and doesn't handle fast-paced or back-road (I do not mean off-road) driving well, it will ... Read More:

C&D was once entertaining, witty, objective and a great read. The staff worked well together and they put out a consistently good magazine. Then it went through some rough years where it got kind of tame and boring. Now, it's an ill fitting mix of new and old writers trying to be fresh and hip while being spoon fed by the car manufactures. The magazine lacks consistency, focus and any sort of clear vision as to what they're about.
C&D mostly seems to print what the biggest manufactures want them to. There have been several articles lately, such as on the new Nissan GT-R and Corvette ZR1, that literally mirror articles in other magazines even featuring some of the same quotes from the same car execs. You might as well go to the manufacture's ... Read More:

I've read them all. Automobile is the best US car magazine. If you want even better ones, EVO and CAR are superior, but your going to have to pay to have them imported from the Brits.

Motorcycle enthusiasts are a unique breed and the main quality that sets them apart from the rest of civilization is their unyielding enthusiasm for their chosen sport/hobby. They often become consumed with biking and, like golf fanatics and others, they view every spare moment as an excuse to partake in their chosen activity.
Cycle World is a magazine designed with the motorcycle enthusiast in mind. This publication is made for the type of biker who not only likes to ride his cycle, but also liked to learn as much about motorcycles as possible. There are, of course, plenty of articles in each issue of Cycle World that talk about the joys of riding and the sport of motorcycle racing. But Cycle World includes other articles, too- articles that only ... Read More:

Sure it's glossy and the articles are short, but when I just want to know the high level of what's happening in the world of bikes, it does the job. I wouldn't want to know anything about the 250cc bikes, for example, but they toss in so much information and good photography that I can't help but learn a little more about things I didn't set out to know. If you just want a quick page turner this is a good choice. If you want sexy and cutting edge, the go for the $$$ British mags. Both are good, but this one is cheap and cheerful.

What's better than a 700hp primered car doing a burnout? Not much. That's what the rednecks that write for Car Craft belive, and it shows. For example, someone sent in a pic of their beater doing a burnout. CC published it with the caption "Is that the battery strapped to the windshield?! That is awesome!" This mag is a fun, informational read.
It mostly deals with Muscle cars from the '60s and '70s, but will feature almost anything American and high powered from early '50s to late '70s. They stay away from EFI muscle, as that's left to other mags. Also, imports aren't covered, as rice is done to death by 200 other mags.
Subjects cover everything from "How much nitrous will this junkyard engine take?" (300 shot), to bracket racing your homebuilt car, to making your ... Read More:
the publisher of this magazine makes it extremely difficult to speak with them if you have any problems. in my case, a gift sub for my father was mistakenly mailed to me. after 2 emails and 2 voicemails, i was finally able to speak to a human who suggested that i mail them to my father myself. they've finally changed the address, but apparently don't care when they make a mistake and as a company simply cannot afford the few cents it costs them to send another one out, in the name of customer satisfaction. really lowbrow stuff. maybe in spirit it's actually it's Excellence: The Magazine About Pinto.
