I was really disappointed with this magazine because it is so full of advertisements and blatant "product placement." It seems to promote "pop culture" and related attitudes rather than truly exploring nature and values. Sadly, aside from Boys Quest (which is too young for my son), I haven't found another magazine aimed at the 10-14 year-old boy. For those who have really open-minded, secure boys, or progressive girls, I recommend New Moon Magazine -- it's an outstanding ad-free pub.

Cricket

Cricket magazine contains high quality short stories for children. They do a great job of defining a theme for each issue and tying several stories to it. They also do a great job at exposing young people to different cultures and ideas in a very mature way.

And, of course, a huge chunk of my vocabulary skills came from Cricket, literally to this day. I remember going through elementary school and recognizing long words that I learned specifically from this mag! I also brought copies of it to class many times to share with my 5th grade teacher because we'd always end up studying something in school that had a related article in Cricket that I had read. My granddaughter loves receiving Spider magazine! She will be eight years old in January. She is excited to receive the magazine each month and I am happy to have found a quality children's literature magazine that she can enjoy, which helps to encourage and strengthen her reading time. Thank you!

Nick Jr. Magazine

I bought this for my 4 & 3 year old. They love watching the shows on Nick Jr. The shows teach the kids several different things. Such as : a different language, counting, ABC's, teamwork, and many other things. So why not buy the magazine to continue the learning when the tv is off. Plus, the kids love have their favorite shows at their fingertips.

I have been a fan of Cricket magazines since I first subscribed to Babybug when my daughter was a baby. She is now 3.5 years-old and I currently subscribe to Ladybug and Click. Ladybug takes off from Babybug in that it has stories and poems that are illustrated in full-color and the text is engaging for young and aspiring readers.

Click is a magazine for preschoolers and beginning readers who are curious about the world we live in - the magazine explores different themes in every issue, for e.g. transportation etc. The explanations are brief so kids will not get bored, and there are plenty of pictures and illustrations to capture young children's imagination. Disney and Me is a fun magazine for toddlers and up, but the magazine features Disney characters, and not just Winnie the Pooh. In one issue for example, characters from Cars, Meet the Robinsons, Finding Nemo, Handy Manny & Winnie the Pooh were featured, and the number of pages devoted to the characters also vary.

I would recommend this magazine only if your child was really into the Disney characters [my daughter loves Finding Nemo]...the activities are fun enough but there are other magazines out there like Highlights, Baby Bug, Ladybug & Cricket magazine that are more substantial in terms of educational content. This magazine rates better in terms of entertainment & fun.

I ordered the item exactly a month ago. Amazon has always had a great product assortment, great prices and even better value. As a merchandise distributor, however, many things seem out of your hands. You ask me to review a product which first of all, is a gift, secondly, the intended recipient has not received. You do not allow me to proceed without reviewing so that the review will be incorrect. I knew that it would take from 4 to 6 weeks to deliver the product. What is unacceptable is that in the 4 weeks since I ordered the intended recipient has not received any notification that this gift is arriving. This was meant as a Christmas gift.
