I have subscribed to MSDN Magazine for years now, and it really is quite good. Unlike most Microsoft publications, it is not "sales-pitchy" in that the articles are usually applicable to resolving common development issues, and there is very little subliminal verbiage geared toward buying other MS products that you don't need.

One thing to note is that they are very big on emerging technologies. This has its pros and cons...for example, they had tons of Visual Studio 2005 articles well before it was released, so it's nice to know how to use what's coming down the pike. And now (Sept 2007), there are a lot of Orcas (VS 2008) articles.

I've been a Mac user since 1987 and have read or seen almost every Mac related magazine out there. My former favorite was MacUser Magazine. Unfortunately, it was long ago swallowed up by MacWorld. I used to enjoy the old MacAddict mag, but it has lost some of its bite (yes, it was occasionally childish as well, but that was a big part of its charm for me) since becomming MacLife.
I ran into MacFormat while browsing the computer mags at some book store and bought it on a whim based on some of the included programs on the DVD it came with. A bit pricey at over $15, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm very glad I did. This is a must-read for the webmaster, web host, or web designer. It is chock full of reviews, articles, and tutorials that keep the web-head ahead of the pack.

Each issue has a CD with typically cool stuff...trial or full programs (both PC and MAC), add-ins for Adobe titles, website templates, graphics, fonts, and more. Heck, the software alone is worth the price of the mag.

I'm building quite a library of images, fonts, templates, and icons just from the CDs in the issues I've purchased.

Incidentally, this is a UK (British) publication. This explains (a) the high price, (b) the funky spelling of some words, and (c) the prices listed in pounds.

The info on this product says: Availability: The first issue should arrive in 6-10 weeks.

When I hadn't received the magazine in over 8 weeks I spent 15 minutes on the phone snaking my way to a person who could help only to be told their system had crashed moments before I called and they could NOT help me. I'd have to call back later.

What they did tell me was it takes 3 MONTHS to process subscriptions when ordered through Amazon. This was a Christmas gift and I'm not happy right now.

If you want this magazine (and my game developer son says it's good) go order it from Game Developer directly.

i have read this i-D for just 1 year!
but i knew it for many years, cos i live in china, there's few foregin magazine i could bought around my city beijing.
i booked it in a import&export company.
it's really too expensive to me, it cost more than 1,000 yuan RMB.
you could read all new in this mag. new models, new fashion, new photographers etc.
the quanlity of this mag is well, paper and print are the best.
its pics are not just beautiful also can get you into a think-time, and you will won something that you feeling great.
so buy i then get the i-D's mind into your brain.
after few monthes you will find i-d is one of the greatest mag in the world.
