My MIL got a subscription to this for my son and it is just adorable. As others have said, the content is great but it's very short. I am glad he gets it but I don't know If I would dish out $25 a year for it, but as long as she wants to get it for him, that's fine by me. :D
Actually, my son (age 4.5) uses it as a bathroom book. It's hilarious to see him sitting on the potty in deep thought while reading these. So for short sessions like that, they're great but don't expect them to entertain your child for any amount of time. It's also handy to keep 2 or 3 in the car (they're fairly sturdy) to look at in restaurants or dr. offices etc.
So, all in all cute but not completely worth the money IMO.

I like this magazine. It's kind of pricey and has far too many ads, but.....all in all it's a pretty good magazine. I especially like the articles and pictures on real weddings.
After a while of making scrapbook pages, you sometimes have a mind block and need new idea. The how-to information is great. Love to look through it for new ideas and tools. I don't copy the entire pages, for instance I noticed that one illustrated page had cut along the pattern of the paper and made a cute border. Someone wanted to know what to do with left over letters that didn't spell a word. They made a cute bottom border with them overlapping each other.
I have been a subscriber since their first issue and love this magazine and their website. It's a quarterly magazine, so you'll have enough time to finish a few projects before the next issue arrives.
I can't give it enough justice in this review. Visit their website [...] (or google for Make magazine). It gives a sample of what you'll find in the magazine and links to hundreds of other websites with amazing and fun projects to build. Or download one of their free weekly video podcast that includes a pdf for the project. The projects come straight from the magazine and it shows you how to make them.
Thanks to the magazine I made a small LED flashlight that runs on old batteries, a marshmallow gun made with PVC, and a ... Read More:
I'm a bit new to watercolor (or at least taking it seriously), but I've found this magazine to be an excellent help in the process of making art. The interviews and articles are informative and detailed in the processes of the art making and there's a good spread of different information in every issue. Sometimes books are a bit daunting for me, and there's not enough time to absorb all the information, but this format makes it easier for me to learn techniques. I find myself reading an article at a time and then remembering that information later when I'm painting with ease... It's also nice to have a variety of artists to learn from in every issue. I find myself learning from artists that I would not usually buy a book about or spend time researching ... Read More:
My mom got me this mag for a christmas present. I loved the first one that had a whole section of the best kids books. I thought it was a feature but it wasn't. They do have a section that I love that puts new (and some old) music, books, movies, and toys into color schemes for different ages and a review of these products. They also have some great features about how to plan a unique party and some dinner ideas as well as some cover articles that I enjoyed, but so much of it is fashion and makeup and things that are so expensive (some of it kids clothes and yes the models look cute but for my daughter who likes to be able to move and get dirty, it just isn't for our family.) Even before I was married I never wore make-up and yes I like to look good but ... Read More:
There are a number of knitting magazines on the market, but only two that are top notch--and this is one of the two. As a knitter, I can't possibly be without either one. The patterns are elegant, the articles relevant and the ads are for the top of the line yarns, books and knitting accessories. You're not a knitter without this subscription!
I have been a subscriber since the premier issue in 1975. Back then my workshop was a 4 by 8 foot room in front of my carport and my only power tool was an electric drill. The second issue prompted me to make my first hand cut dovetails. The main benefit I still get out of the magazine is it gives me the confidence to try new projects that demand new skills. While I buy Woodwork regularly, and occasionally other magazines at the news stand, Fine Woodworking is the only magazine I subscribe to year after year.
After reading a review here mentioning subscription issues I went directly to American Artists web site and ordered a subscription. That was November 23, 2005 and now Feb. 10, 2006 still no magazine. When I finally complained I got a request to send my credit info again to vnu@espcomp.com. Can't say from looking at that address that I have confidence I was communicating with American Artist or a magazine publisher. Would you send your credit info...I think not. I'd say don't blame Amazon as a previous reviewer did. Hey, the magazine is good if you can get a subscription.
This is a premiere woodworking magazine. Editor Christopher Schwarz has done a great job changing the focus of the magazine from just power tools to a nice blend of power tools, hand tools, beginner and advanced techniques. Having said that, the renewal price I got directly from the publishers website was 25% less than what Amazon was offering.
Also, check out Woodworking Magazine. Another fantastic publication (ad free) from the same publishers.
