I was disappointed with this magazine.... It has way too many advertisements in it for the price.
I felt some of the articles and layouts were interesting/appealing, but most of the projects weren't for me.... either too difficult or not to my liking. I am a novice scrapbooker and was hoping that this magazine would cater more to the beginner on how to get started with basic ideas on page layouts, tips and tricks or the trade and so on.
The best issue of Creating Keepsakes I've seen to date is the one on the best scrapbooking tools.... otherwise most of the issues having been disappointing for me anyway.
This magazine is mostly aimed at making clothing/wearables and is slick with lots of great pictures. Not for everyone, but like all Tauton publications it is sophisticated and has those articles many other magazines don't cover. Often the articles will cover how designers construct clothing or how great past designers such as Coco Channel changed design, imagined color, constructed their clothing, etc. There are also many imaginative embellishments and views of great vintage clothing. Perhaps not for everyone but has its place and is a feast for the eyes.

I am new to quilting, and am trying to help my church make quilts for charity. Working full time, I thought this might be a great help. Maybe these are quick quilts for those with a lot of experience, but it's not quick for my purposes. It may have also been my mistake by equating "quick" to "easy".
Covers a wide variety of sewing projects and techniques. I subcribed to this magazine for many years, but stopped because sadly I hardly have time to sew anymore and prefer to crochet because I can take it with me. Aimed at the homesewer interested in honing skills or looking for a fun project. This is a helpful publication for beginners but also has aricles and projects to suit more advanced sewers. Also covers latest/useful products. There is a good reason this magazine has been a favorite of sewers for years.
Pottery Making Illustrated is a magazine with lots of practical advice for beginning and advanced potters. There is a wide range of subjects focused on topics that are useful. Other ceramics magazines seem to be about cutting edge sculpture, but what if you want to make bowls, plates, or cups?
Pottery Making Illustrated is the place to get that information. One issue I bought had three articles I have used many times and shared with friends.
I am mostly interested crochet wearables--this magazine along with the Interweave publication Crochet are highly recommended. The patterns are for a variety of skill levels so there is a project for everyone. I like "vintage re-imagined" patterns and the 2 above mentioned magazines fit the bill. They both also have some fresh and modern patterns. Occassionally Vogue's Knit 1 and Knitting magazines have some great crochet patterns. Knit 1 being aimed at a younger, "hipper" crowd.
A lot of the reviewers here have mentioned problems with one cover story. Don't let that put you off this mag. It and its sister mag MAKE are great. They show a different look at the craft industry than you get when you look in chains like Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Craft and diy are huge and it's not all about scrapbooking and decorative painting. There are heaps of indi crafters doing great things and who, until now, have been largely hidden from mainstream consumers. CRAFT gives these people a platform to showcase their stuff - and it is great - the only pity of it is that in publicising these new takes on old crafts indi is now becoming mainstream! Go figure. Do yourself a favor and check out the magazine - there is plenty to look at and to enjoy. There ... Read More:

I learned how to quilt from scratch in 2000. At that time, there were few night classes offered in my area for working people, but this magazine helped me learn how to quilt anyway. I appreciate how they rate each project (easy, intermediate, advanced) and show a second colorway to consider. Sometimes they also show an alternate setting (like making a 1 ft wall hanging from a larger quilt.) The section on "gizmos and gotta haves" is really interesting and shows the latest stuff - not stuff that's "old news" or has been around for a while. This magazine usually has one or two paper pieced projects, too. If you've never done paper piecing before, Quiltmaker is a good place to learn how. I also enjoy the finished photos sent in by other readers - it's like a quilt ... Read More:
This is a magazine that pushes you to create more and better beadwork. It focuses on seed beads, not stringing, and really opens up your mind to the possibilities.
