American Scholar

I had subscribed to the American Scholar for many years for the fine essays. I've let my subscription lapse now that the new editors have dumbed the magazine down. I can't imagine who they're trying to appeal to. The current issue's recourse to Kitty Kelly was the straw that broke the camel's back.

The Simpsons Comic

So no one can seem to answer me as to why this comic subscription is so friggin' expensive, but I order this comic monthly from another service and it is hilarious!

In fact, all Bong comics that I have ever read are great, The Simpsons and the Futurama comic are brilliantly made. The art is basically the exact same as the shows and the writing is normally on par with a good episode, and just like the show, sometimes some are not as great and sometimes some are amazing.

If you are a fan of the show, read the comics my friend because it is just like bonus episodes of the show, it just takes some reading.

Overall, buy the comics. I do not recommend buying the comics for this price though. The other advantage ... Read More:

Vital Speeches of the Day

As the name suggests the magazine is a collection of speeches (though not always vital they are varied and have a wide appeal). There is no advertising, no photography, only a collection of 5-9 different speeches which can cover topics from education to nuclear energy to the banking system to the practice of non-violence to ... well just about anything.

I have greatly enjoyed reading it, but there is one complaint I have: The speeches are sometimes not carefully proofread. Since this is a journal devoted exclusively to written transcripts I am discouraged that there are so many typos, occasionally to the point of making a speech almost unreadable (though admittedly this extreme is rare).

Christian Communicator

This is my favorite trade publication and the editors are my favorite people. I love Reg Forder and the ACW team. This is full of great advice and real life examples of what you can accomplish in the Christian writing market. Ministry Marketing Solutions would not be where it is today without the wisdom of this publication and the mentors like Cecil Murphey who I have met through ACW's conferences! Awesome.
