this magazine is usually well received among progressive activists although many of us had a major problem with some coverage in the past. i won't get to it at this time but i must say that the last one i've read (?May/June edition) had a very good coverage in the issue of the prison industrial complex, putting human faces behind all the build up of prisons, the absurd increase in the prison population in the U.S. by far leading in the incarceration of our people, young and old alike, the racist system we still live in, etc. also, the coverage for the issue of foreclosure was very thorough and finally shed some light on my questions regarding the reasons why, and who is responsible for this mess. check it out.

After years away from this magazine I decided to give it a try again last year; big mistake. When you need the news you want it now, not last weeks news this week. It used to be a good way to stay informed and keep abreast of current events, well, the time as come to forget that concept. So much changes in any given week that if you keep up through the internet or tv than there is little left to rehash in the print of a weekly magazine. Some of the lead pieces are ok, plus some of the feature stories are alright but overall it is a dinosaur media relic. I read my issue the day I get it and toss it. Got this as a gift for my mom who just took up painting. She called to say she got two issues at once, which isn't great because you pay a hefty price for only 6 months of issues and she got one third of the gift at once. She said it's neat and there are a lot of things she's never seen before like names of brush strokes and styles. She excited, so I'm excited. Just wished the first issue would have come sooner.

I was told to go to Amazon and order Redbook and it would automatically renew my subscription. Now I'm getting duplicate issues every month. I'm very unhappy.

This magazine was recommended to me after I mentioned to another dog lover that I wished there was a dog magazine that had a little more substance to it (as compared to the one very popular dog magazine that we see sold at book stores all over the US).

I was looking for a different viewpoint, maybe some articles that provided insights into dogs, their behavior, culture, research,etc. The Bark does an excellent job at filling this niche - it provides thoughtful, well written articles and is arranged beautifully.

Yes, there is some 'fluff' in here (pardon the pun), but again, if you are looking for perhaps more of a sociological/cultural approach, this is a magazine worth exploring...One other reviewer mentioned that this was the "NPR" ... Read More:
