Nick Jr. Magazine

I bought this for my 4 & 3 year old. They love watching the shows on Nick Jr. The shows teach the kids several different things. Such as : a different language, counting, ABC's, teamwork, and many other things. So why not buy the magazine to continue the learning when the tv is off. Plus, the kids love have their favorite shows at their fingertips.

My mom got me this mag for a christmas present. I loved the first one that had a whole section of the best kids books. I thought it was a feature but it wasn't. They do have a section that I love that puts new (and some old) music, books, movies, and toys into color schemes for different ages and a review of these products. They also have some great features about how to plan a unique party and some dinner ideas as well as some cover articles that I enjoyed, but so much of it is fashion and makeup and things that are so expensive (some of it kids clothes and yes the models look cute but for my daughter who likes to be able to move and get dirty, it just isn't for our family.) I have been a fan of Cricket magazines since I first subscribed to Babybug when my daughter was a baby. She is now 3.5 years-old and I currently subscribe to Ladybug and Click. Ladybug takes off from Babybug in that it has stories and poems that are illustrated in full-color and the text is engaging for young and aspiring readers.

Click is a magazine for preschoolers and beginning readers who are curious about the world we live in - the magazine explores different themes in every issue, for e.g. transportation etc. The explanations are brief so kids will not get bored, and there are plenty of pictures and illustrations to capture young children's imagination. This magazine perfectly reflects the American attitudes toward child-rearing. It "mentions" breastfeeding, but it's only a token mention. In the very next paragraph is information that contradicts all the fundamentals of breastfeeding. Sleeping through the night no later than 4 months?? Breastfed babies often need an overnight feeding through their ninth month. This is just one example. I don't care that this magazine is free or only a few dollars a year. I will not be bringing this useless pile of crap into my house anymore.

Disney and Me is a fun magazine for toddlers and up, but the magazine features Disney characters, and not just Winnie the Pooh. In one issue for example, characters from Cars, Meet the Robinsons, Finding Nemo, Handy Manny & Winnie the Pooh were featured, and the number of pages devoted to the characters also vary.

I would recommend this magazine only if your child was really into the Disney characters [my daughter loves Finding Nemo]...the activities are fun enough but there are other magazines out there like Highlights, Baby Bug, Ladybug & Cricket magazine that are more substantial in terms of educational content. This magazine rates better in terms of entertainment & fun.

Most of the these reviews are a few years old and complain of waiting months for the first issue. Well, not much has changed. I ordered this for my wife 2 weeks after she found out she was pregnant and she is now almost 20 weeks! I should have looked at the reviews first. I think the main problem might be since it's every other month, they wait till the next issue is published, rather than send you the current issue. Still waiting!
