Where do I begin? This magazine has it all for fans of Sci-fi, the only periodical which can rival it is Asimov's. But, if you're like me, you like a combination of real science as well as the fiction, and Analog excels at bringing both to the reader. I always feel a sense of anticipation when opening up a new issue of Analog, it's just so consistently good. If you've never tried Analog before, and love Sci-fi, I'd say get a copy today, or better yet, subscribe, you won't be sorry.
I got the Odyssey as a child, and it helped my interest in Science. So I recently ordered the magazine for my daughter who's on the younger side of the magazine's target audience.
I liked the first issue which covered the human brain. The only thing I wasn't wild about was a photo of a person under going brain surgery. With a rather squeamish daughter, it bothered her a bit. The next issue was on Pirates. It was really good in the quality of information, writing, and the print quality. Five star issue.
The third issue I just got was on the human body. It included quite a few photos of the human body, from the Body Works art show (where they pose skinned cadavers), to forensic scientists working with investigations. Some readers might ... Read More:

I gave this magazine as a gift, and also received a subscription as a gift. I can't tell...is it the packaging? The ho-hum articles? I don't know. I had such high hopes for a great-quality magazine that would increase my environmental awareness and encourage me in my small attempt to live green. Alas, I've been disappointed and I won't renew.
While I preferred this magazine a few years ago when it was called Alternative Medicine, it still has useful information and can be beneficial to your health. I learned I was vitamin D deficient because I scheduled a test after reading an article about this problem in this magazine. I still miss the layout of the old magazine, but Natural Solutions remains a useful source of information for alternative approaches to health.
The articles will blow your mind. Did you know the catalytic converter *had not been invented* when the Clean Air Act was enacted? It's an everyday fact of life now, and we take for granted that we can drive cars everywhere and still be able to breathe. But Congress took a leap of faith, and some hardworking Edison-types out in the auto industry found an incredibly practical solution to a problem that many thought could not be solved in a cost-effective way.
I just saw a trailer for the 2008 movie, Flash of Genius, about the guy who invented the intermittent windshield wiper. As a species, we're so good at assimilating stuff like that. Then taking it for granted. And thinking it must have always existed. Or that the idea is obvious. "Heck, *I* could ... Read More:

This magazine is an excellent source on aviation as well as space. It's focus is on aircraft and spacecraft (together with profiles of the men and women who piloted such vehicles). You will find details on a variety of aircraft going back to the first flights in aviation history all the way up to the present time. It also has excellent coverage of the history of the U.S.'s space program - again - both historical and prospective. I recommend this magazine to anyone interested in the history of aviation and space.
My Husband wanted this item, he subscribed to Sky & Telescope in the past and enjoyed the information that it offered. I bought it for him for Father's Day.
This is a wonderful magazine for children, filled with puzzles, quizzes, great illustrations, and articles aimed at 9 - 13 year olds, plus science that's fun to learn. It's been around for over 30 years, so you know that means it truly is exceptional in the publishing world. The other reviewer shouldn't fault the magazine and not update the "review" based on delivery problems, since her complaint came only 6 weeks after the order. It clearly states above that delivery might take 6-10 weeks, and I've learned to be very patient with subscriptions ordered through Amazon. (But they always showed up!) So don't blame the publisher -- it's still a terrific magazine!
I've been reading Skeptic for about 5 years now and really enjoy this periodical. While some of the topics are classic (e.g. evolution versus ID), it also introduces new ideas which keep it fresh. Skeptic covers a broad degree of questionable claims and the different authors certainly have their own style of writing making it a entertaining reading experience.
Things that could be improved are the fact some of the articles are difficult to follow or harp on and on regarding some minor stance. Also, occasionally the articles are written in a very patronizing or one-sided style which as an educated audience I find annoying.
However, there is plenty of content so I'm still getting my moneys worth when I skip the tedious articles and read the ones I'm interested ... Read More:
