I loved the movie and my basset hound sang along to a few of the tunes in the movie; however she (the basset) did not respond at all to the music from the sound track, and this was a little disappointing, but I liked it a great deal.

While some of these songs don't really fit Allison's voice, her voice is strong enough to prevent any of these from being a true dud. Strongest cover is of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now." I'd even put that cover up with the original.

....and too "country" for rock, but Allison is an absolute treasure. Really, she defies classification...more now than formerly. Nor are there any true comparisons for her, save for the one obvious one. [And she appears here as a guest].
From the opening "A Soft Place To Fall", thru the BIG HIT "Alabama Song" [well...it SHOULD have been a big hit], to the closing, and absolutely haunting, "Is Heaven Good Enough For You", this is a truly wonderful 70+ minute compilation from Allison's first four albums [3 studio, 1 live]. If the ending duet doesn't give you the shakes...it grows out of Allison and Shelby Lynne's family tragedy.
I'm not a "country" fan, but I love Allison [and Shelby Lynne]...fabulous voice, well used. Why ... Read More:

I just got this and can't stop watching the "bonus" DVD. I thought it might have 2 or 3 songs - NO - This is a whole concert on DVD. As everyone else has pointed out, Allison's voice is just a pure gift in it's clarity and phrasing. The delivery of two songs in particular make me want to say this is my favorite music video ever. "Bully Jones", a raucous duet with Kid Rock is electric ... you can just feel chemistry happening. In contrast with that (by mood) is another duet with another semiwild semioutlaw, Shelby Lynne. Again I experience just shivvers, hearing the two girls asking, "Is Heaven Good enough for You?" oh, BTW, the band is a band that is just cookin' on all 8 cylinders. great guitar licks throughout.

Alison continues to drift accross genres with "The Duel," her fourth album. This album is more like Miss Fortune than like either of her first two albums, but it is definitely a style its own. It is kind of a mix of blues and 90s alternative chick-music. There's not too much uptempo stuff on here, and there's not much upbeat stuff either. The songs are mostly storytelling that looks the darker moments of life [e.g., grief, depressioin] straight in the face. The album's not a downer though, just honest and thoughtful. Alison gets a bit political with the excellent "All Aboard," which mocks the rush into the Iraq War and the people who propelled it. Events have proven Alison right on this one. The song has a pulsing rhythm and guitars that evoke a train ... Read More:

....have been all over the place. And, I suppose that's to be expected...Allison has landed in the nether land where country, pop, and rock overlap. Some like that; some don't...I liked it just fine....
We have here an album about the good and bad of relationships, and just plain survival...she has "Work to Do" and she's "Getting Somewhere"...all in great form. "Fairweather", which deals with an unreliable lover, is probably my favorite track...
Allison is a pretty girl, with a fine voice, who has given us a well-produced recording. One caveat...31'01" is kind of short; that aside, great job.

It's surprising this lady isn't better known. Possibly, after this album, she just decided to "do her own thing". Whatever, this disc is excellent. It will be pleasing to fans of modern country while sounding traditional enough to satisfy fans of that genre too. Allison's voice is truly memorable, with a wonderful Southern sound to it. All the songs have real emotion to them. The uptempo tunes are energetic and will have the listener tapping along with the foot. Good guitar work. Definitely a worth inclusion in any collection.

The Hardest Part is an excellent sophmore album from Alison Moorer. She is a very talented musician [singer and writer] and it's just weird she never made it bigger with the quality of this album and her first, Alabama Song. Alison remains in the country genre on this album. Her later albums migrated to different sounds, but this one definitely belonged on country charts, if radio had given it more respect. Alison has a great voice with a wonderful Southern accent and they're on display to good effect here. The songs contain numerous excellent guitar parts. Great songs:
Hardest Part
Think it Over
Bring Me All YOur Loving
No Next Time - very good slower tune
There is a very powerful and haunting autobiographical "hidden track" ... Read More:
