I am surprised this did not make it on Broadway longer. What a great trip back in time! Saw the touring show and I had to get the soundtrack.

My flatmate and I listened to this recording, both being fans of the OBC. And we were constantly looking at each other in disbelief. We both couldn't get over Vanessa Williams lack of expression and the number of times the recording sounded a little off.

revival casts are meant to improve on the first, this one matched at times and came lower other times.

only buy if you're a fan. the packaging is equally disappointing. For a show so rich in texture, i would assume a more mature sense of design.

i definitely would only listen to this one more than twice if i were to stage the piece.

A swinging musical great time...great tunes, fantastic arrangements and orchestratins. Interpretations are fantastic...great musicians...Ann Hampton Calloway is a national treasure. This is a must for music theater and swing afficionados both!

Nine - The Musical (2003 Broadway Revival Cast)

I'll admit I wasn't a fan of the original, but this revival has won me over. And now I really like both cast albums.
The revival cast is just as good as the original, Banderas well cast as Guido. I prefer Chita Rivera over Lilliane Montevecchi on Follies Bergere,(could never understand what the hell she was singing!) And while Jane Krakowski is not exactly the (sadly) late Anita Morris, she is sexy in a different way and it works. I love Mary Stuart Masterson, who knew she was such a terrific singer?
The whole CD is beautifully done!

If you are looking for a Hair cast abum...this is NOT it. If you want to hear the score performed by an amazing array of broadway and pop belters, this is the CD for you. From the great Lillias White's powerhouse of Aquarius, to the ultimate recording of Let the Sunshine In, every song is done powerfully and effectively. Jennifer Hudson gives a preview of what she would do in Dreamgirls with Easy To Be Hard. The score now seems dated and the shock value is totally gone, but still alot of fun. I'll bet the same version in concert the night before the recording was produced was a total blast!!
