Lila Downs es una representante si no la mejor, importantísima, de la música mexicana contemporánea. De orígen autóctono y comprometida con sus tradiciones, ésta cantante hace un arte de cada presentación además de ser bella y representar en carne viva a la mujer Itsmeña; su arte y belleza reunidos en un mismo ser le hacen como toda oaxaqueña digna de admiración.

La Sandunga

Amongst all four Lila Downs releases so far, there is little doubt in my mind that this one remains an all time favorite.

Needless to say, I have become a huge fan, and all CDs by Lila and her fabulous band fully deserve five stars, period. But this one is the most indengenious one, the one of her roots, where her true character and amibition shine through in its most pure form.

I especially adore songs like La Sandunga with its magic touch, or Naila, maybe because I am a bit a sentimental guy. Anyway - buy all of her CD's, but give this one a special listen.

Hopefully, she will never burn out and continue with her wonderful voice and the intelligence and subtelty of her almost dylanesque or even taupinian lyrics. ... Read More:

I listened this cd two times, i really don't like it, some things are good, if I think about Lila Downs, and some others, but this cd is not for me!

I wonder how many people saw the ad for this CD on TV and ordered it right away without looking further into the contents. Brightman? Bocelli? Pavarotti? Florez? Watson? All Three Tenors? All on one CD? Sounded like a winner in the ad. They don't mention the Main Title from Star Wars. Nor do they mention (even Amazon doesn't show it!), that Anne Sofie Von Otter's performance is actually a duet with Elvis Costello, who simply does not have the chops or vocal gifts that most of the other artists on this CD are blessed with. In fact, that song is positively dreadful, and it's all because of Costello's vocally-strained style. What the hell is he doing on this CD? The rest of this CD is generally fine, but certainly do not expect a CD full of classical music, and ... Read More:
