My girl wanted tickets to see Patty when she was in our town in October. So, I bought a couple of good ones and they hung on the refrigerator for a couple of months until the day of the show.
Understand that I liked Patty just fine before the show. She wasn't Emmylou, but good, good, good. I didn't even know about "Sleepless Nights" when we walked through the doors of the Carolina Theater. "That's All it Took" lived up to it's name and more. I kept hearing these fine old songs and kept thinking "Where did this come from?"
No kidding, we went home from the show, turned on the computer and downloaded the record. Burned it, put it in the car, and listened to it for THREE WEEKS straight. It's true. Every song is a gem. ... Read More:

I loved the movie and my basset hound sang along to a few of the tunes in the movie; however she (the basset) did not respond at all to the music from the sound track, and this was a little disappointing, but I liked it a great deal.

Ran across this CD on the website, listened and fell in love with it. My husband is more into bluegrass than I am but this CD is great for everyone. This rendition of Carol of the Bells is one of the best cuts on the CD. Her version of "Little Drummer Boy" is great as it's not the usual hum-drum sound. Also, Christmas Day At My House, really puts you in the spirit. Great CD.

I don't normally write reviews but I just have to praise this album because I love it that much. It is a high quality musical work with beautiful strong vocals from Patty Loveless, coupled with lovely fiddle and banjo. The entire album exudes an authentic bluegrass mountain feel that speaks very well for the genre. And the song "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" is a moving haunting song that I want to hear again and again, belting it out with her every time.

Dreamin' My Dreams continues Patty Loveless's pattern of bluegrass tinged traditional country, mixing mournful ballads with up-tempo toe-tappers. Her choice of songs and songwriters may be the most outstanding and unusual of her long and storied career. Its the way she proudly displays her influences, beginning with the Mountain Soul record, that has done so much to improve her consistency and establish her as the uncompromising queen of traditional country.
I feel the pain in her voice, and the harmonies and instrumentalists compliment it so well, on "On the Verge of Tears," "Nobody Here By That Name," and "My Old Friend The Blues." There is always a balance of heartbreak and joy on Patty's records. They're not all tearful ballads. "Big ... Read More:

This CD is great intro to Patty Loveless. The songs have good music and good lyrics. Patty sings them with a very clear and expressive voice. She can do uptempo fun stuff and her ballads are nowhere near boring, they have impact. Good songs:
Can't Get Enough - choppy with energy
You Can Feel Bad
Lonely Too Long - slow song about guy and woman who had relations just cuz they were lonely so long, is that a cause for shame?
Just Wanna Be Loved by You
You Don't Even Know Who I Am - marriage failed where neither party communicated with or engaged the other.
Blame It On Your Heart - awesome, fun, uptempo tune. If only more country were like this.

This album has many great artists, new and old to bluegrass music. These are all great songs, NOT like some collections that you might buy for one or two songs, the rest being songs you don't like or skip through. I listen to BLUEGRASS TODAY over and over again, at work, in the car, at home. I am very pleased ! I love it!

I have yet to see the movie in its entirety but after hearing Lyle Lovett over the closing credits, I had to buy the CD. Lovett's "I'm a Soldier in the Army of the Lord" is a foot-stomping, hand-clapping, good old-fashioned Sunday-go-to-meeting jam that works! The album is filled with traditional Southern gospel, interpreted by artists that truly understand the power of music to express one's faith.
Other highlight's include the familiar "Softly and Tenderly" (Rebecca Lynn Howard), a spiritually evocative "In the Garden" by Johnny Cash, Lori White's "There is Power in the Blood", Sounds of Blackness' soulfully a cappella version of "Victory of Mine", the funeral favorite "I'll Fly Away", done by Gary Chapman and Wynonna.

It took me a while to find this album, that's how good it is. I have her best of album and Mountain Soul as well. My friends had this and I listened to it every time I visited until I just had to get a copy.
