This album is a miracle of fortitude. Sound upon sound hits you left and right and, just when you're starting to feel a consistent groove, out comes another sound to keel you over. Repetition is not the name of the game here. DJ Shadow grabs hundreds of sounds from the attic and comes up with one of the freshest and most timeless hip-hop/trip-hop/what-have-you albums of all time. It's become THE measuring stick for any producer/mixer worth their salt. This album's been blowing minds going on twelve years now.
Take note, Puff Daddy. Timbaland. Kanye West. And bow down. There aren't a lot of albums on Amazon with 100+ reviews that maintain a five star average, but this is deservedly one of them. Check it out for yourself and see ... Read More:

The seller sent the CD as soon as was stated, and I received it in fine condition, with limited scratches as stated. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was it had been stated that I would receive the CD cover slip, although not in good condition. I did not receive the CD coverslip, it actually came in a thin case that usually holds burned CDs. The CD was not burned though, and it plays fine.

It's an injustice that 8 years have now past, and the Avalanches have yet to release a follow-up to Since I Left You. As for why? Nobody knows. However, when artists set the bar so high, the pressure to re-create an audible masterpiece can be overwhelming.
The mash-up that is Since I Left You is unique, fresh and unattainable.
Their debut full-length release is nothing like any of their earlier EPs. People that are familiar with their earlier efforts might not warm-up to Since I Left You at first. If given a chance, it will infect you and end up as a staple of your musical diet.
This album exposes the enormous simplicities that are rampant within the electronic genre [Daft Punk to Norman Cook]. Since I Left You is the ... Read More:

this album may have beats from stoupe enemy of mankind or whatever his name is, but their not all that great, listening to music, taking small samples blending them over drum beats does not mean you have talent, jus allah is racist and his lyrics are obviously fantasy, he's just some guy from philly who writes down complex phrases and says them over beats, in real life, WEAK!!! and vince paz - a white kid from philly who claims to be muslim and hates gays, i met him when he was in a group called soulcraft, his rhymes and voice may grab ahold of you, but listen to what he really says, he's pathetic along with his self hating (must wish he was'nt white) anti-gay (can't except who he is) wish's he was supernatural cultrally confused little boy.

Listen to sound samples before buying! Compared to 'Tales of the Forgotten Melodies' this CD was a big let down. Gone are the collages of movie audio samples placed over dark soundscapes (although a few short 'filler' tracks reflect this style). 'Hope & Sorrow' focuses more on guest vocalist and rappers and most of the tracks fail to impress. This seems to be an attempt at more of a commercial 'dance' release than the well crafted Turntablism record that I was expecting. I 'hoped' this disc would be an excellent follow up to 'Tales of the Forgotten Melodies' but all I felt was 'sorrow' upon my first listen. A disappointment.

Very well done. I listen to it lots and keep enjoying it. Good old stuff in brand new drag. Love it
Good present idea too. Buy it for yourself and friends, family etc.

It's been a while since I've listened all way through a hip-hop album and not had to hit the skip button. This album is loaded with great beats and guest rappers. The skits are funny as hell like on In 12's We Trust. This will stay in my car deck for a while. Think classic late 90's hip-hop but not tired, just updated for 2008. A great producer comp with some turntablism.

It's not so much that i don't like christmas music... it's just that you get beaten to death, from halloween 'til new years, by the same few tunes - year after year after year (ad infinitum). this is a much overdue addition to your holiday music options.

Ah yes the Private Press. Has it already been 6 years? Well it has and the album continues to impress. I honestly believe the album is appreciated more today than it was upon its' release back in 2002. DJ Shadow quality music with a bit more flair. This album could've been a masterpiece had it not been for some tracks. Ahem ...Monosylabik and Right Thing / GDMFSOB. To this day I have no idea why he did not include the other version of GDMFSOB with Roots Manuva (see the Private Repress). I simply couldn't give this album 5 star because of the above mentioned tracks.
However, the remaining tracks are excellent. The Motorway songs are great with their continuity and soul. Giving up the Ghost shows off Shadows beat skills and Six Days has to be ... Read More:
