This album has a collection of the blues' genius with other great talents; and lovely performances with Norah Jones, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Van Morrison. My favorites are: "sorry seems to be the hardest word" with Elton John, and" Do I ever cross your mind" with Bonnie Raitt.
A great album that can only be enhanced by listening to another wonderful collection: Ray Charles & friends

I was referred to this soundtrack by a friend who knew I was looking for obscure, old-timey American music. Though I'm not a fan of "Deadwood", some of the music was quite fetching. Also included on this soundtrack are sound clips from the series which, while they are quite vulgar, are also very humorous to me, even out of context. I'm sure "Deadwood" enthusiasts would love this album, and fans of old-timey American music should be satisfied as well.

I have some Fats Domino 45's and had not seen any cd's in the stores. I am very happy to have found his cd's at Amazon. This cd has some songs I have not heard, but it also has some that I really like.

Score one more for Rhino. This label really does know how to find obscure cuts and bring them into standout various artist collections. The only gripe I could have is this disk sounds a bit monaural in a mix, but I'll still use it--it's fun to mix up a little blues with the typical sugary Christmas sentiment.
What can I say about this collection that has not been said? Just add Lightning Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Canned Heat and the rest of the crew in and you've got a mix that'll make your season funky.

My father bought this LP when I was 15 and played it on his Heath Kit stereo. It wowed us then and it still does. I set up my old record player just to play this album this Christmas and it was worth it! I've bought a ton of Christmas albums over the years, trying in vain to find something as good as this. No go. This is a BIG orchestra with a BIG string section, with a BIG sound and a BIG organ, backed up by a BIG chorus. There are four passages that still bring tears to my eyes when I turn the volume way up which I always have to do. I just play them over an over. Just magnificent! Powerful! Lots of quiet passages but Shaw knows how to sneak into full tilt. This album is the antidote to weenie Christmas records by pop stars who can't ... Read More:

... then your guests are either Chamber Music enthusiasts ... or they're dead.
Here are 16 tunes performed by artists currently employed by Alligator Records, an independent blues label started up in Chicago in 1971 by one Bruce Iglauer, who began what is now one of the top indie operations on a shoe-strong in 1971. Over the years he has gathered together some of the best contemporary blues artists on the planet, and in this 2003 release they lend their talents to one of the liveliest Christmas-themed albums currently available.
Leading off with her own Have You Heard The News? is the Queen Of The Blues, Ko Ko Taylor (born Cora Walton on September 28, 1935 in Memphis), delivered with her patented rough and powerful voice. ... Read More:

They key difference between this single CD hits collection and the earlier "My Blue Heaven" is that this one uses the sped-up versions as originally released. "My Blue Heaven" and the ACE singles compilations present the songs restored to correct pitch as performed but not released. For those that grew up with the Fat Man this CD has the familiar pitch.

I love this CD! It was recommended by "June Bug" on his Saturday morning Blues Kitchen show on KKFI (a public radio station in Kansas City). I ordered it after Christmas but it still kept the spirit going through January. Lots of great bluesy tracks.

When I drive down the road in my 2006 Honda Accord and have this collection playing on my six changer cd player I feel like it's 1922 in Alabama and I'm in my Ford jalopy listening to some great radio station from the past. These songs not only tell stories of the past they make you feel for people you have never met. It's a great collection.

I love the darker, murkier side of Dr. John like Walk on Guilded Splinters and Gris Gris Woman, so there are several songs that aren't to my taste, but it is a great cd and worth the money.
