I never, met Bonnie, but I knew her former boyfriend, Dick Waterman, who managed the old timers, like Son House, Fred McDowell, Skip James, as well, as back then Buddy Guy, Jr. Wells, and Luther Allison.
Bonnie cut her eye teeth playing with the old guys, learning that bottleneck thing, and she does justice to it. Just as John Mooney, who learned from Son House, does.
BTW, I recorded Eddie'Son'House in the fall of 1969 in my dorm room, before that fateful day when some kids, wanting to learn bottleneck, gave him a jug of wine. One bitter cold night in Rochester, a snowdrift, and frost-bitten fingers...and Son House's career was history.

This George Thorogood collection is a great party CD, regardless of whether you drink like a fish or are totally clean and sober (as I am). While Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Winter could play rings around him, George Thorogood created an intense modern blues style which I hope will influence others. If you saw the 1984 TV movie WHY ME? (based on a true story), in which the lead character's face is virtually destroyed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver, you might wish to skip the overt drinking songs on this CD and just listen to stuff such as "Gear Jammer", "Move It On Over", and "Who Do You Love?", but even if you don't agree with the lyrics of the alcohol songs, you can still enjoy the guitar playing and the grooves of this whole anthology. ... I can't believe I'm just now finding out about this super-talented guitar player and his band. This guy is fantastic with ear-catching chops that are also super-melodic. He's got tremendous feel, probably one of the best guitar players I've ever heard.
The whole album is very listener-friendly, energetic yet easy going. It's bluesy and really funky. Great keyboards too. In fact, the singing, the drumming and everything else here is first rate.

Almost exactly seventy years ago, a man who was then known as Robert Johnson passed away. He was poisoned, presumably by a houseman/barkeep whose wife had been flirting with him on an August Evening. Around the same time, a king pin of the then small, homely music industry sent out a middle man to find Johnson, in hopes of striking a record deal. It took until almost a year after Johnson's death for word to get back to the industry that Johnson was, in fact, deceased. This is not a surprise, considering that the spread of news at the time, let alone in poor black Mississippi (or really, where ever he may have taken up residence at the time), was reserved to word of mouth.
Why then, does this fact interest me so much? I don't know. I almost ... Read More:

I have followed the music of Rory Block for years and have seen her perform 23 times in several countries. Never once have I been disappointed. This cd is another in a long list of blues that comes from her heart. Her adaptation of Son House's music captures his feelings and intertwines them with her own. Combined with the versatility of her voice and the awe of her guitar work, a blues fan will be elated listening to this cd. A Rory Block fan will be ecstatic and surely fall asleep at night smiling.

There is a huge amount of Muddy Waters-compilations out there, and while MCA/Chess's two-disc, 50-track "Anthology 1947-1972" is certainly more definitive than this Geffen compilation, it does offer a very good overview of Muddy Waters' career.
Opening with the classic 1948 single "I Can't Be Satisfied", this CD takes you through (most of) the highlights from the 1950s and 60s. "Hoochie Coochie Man", "I'm Ready", "I Just Wanna Make Love To You", "Mannish Boy", and "Got My Mojo Working" are here, of course, and in the original versions, too, but it's a shame that some slightly lesser known (but equally fine) singles like "I Love The Life I Live, I Live The Life I Love", "She's Nineteen Years Old" and "I Want To Be Loved" are missing.

OMFG do I love this album.
It is one of the best escapes from this nasty world of Sarah Palins and mean people (lol).
I put this on, lean back, and the world is good and I am a happy boy!
This is music for people that know how to zone out.
Yeah that's it: This is space age zone out music for moderns with a nostalgic side.
