CHANT arrived in good condition ahead of the promised delivery date and for a bargain price. The singing is well done. However, I never recognized one selection of the ultra long list of chants that are a radical departure from Kyrie Eleison and Magnificat anima mea. I played it while in bed and drifted off to sleep even after being kinda disappointed in the selections. This is not saying YOU won't be transfixed and inspired by the rhythm, melodies, and selections chosen by the totally-dedicated monks.

If you like this type of modern music presented in a unique style with some excellent voices give this a try. the style is not to everyones tast, I'm hooked and my usual preference for music is more like linkin park and evanescence. But i love this in heavy traffic on the way home, it keeps down the road rage without having to listen to archaic religious latin verse.

Sting's foray into Renaissance music is fascinating for a number of reasons. He doesn't have the voice that one associates with singers of madrigals: one thinks of college and university vocal ensembles, small groups of near-professional choral singers, etc. Then one remembers that in Dowland's day, as in our own, people of "average" voice also sang this kind of music -- musicke, if you will: recall some of the complicated hymnody that is still sung in Anglican churches around the world. The string work is absolutely beautiful, of course, and it contrasts, nicely, in the end, with the voice, which in this case has not been developed to what we would expect to hear. I purchased this version of the monks of Santo Dominto De Silos at the same time I bought the 2008 edition of the Gregorian chant by the Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz (Chant: Music for the Soul). While the effort of the Santo Domingo monks was highly praised when it was released, I fully understand why the version by the Cistercian monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz was so brightly hailed. The Spanish recording seems regimented, in contrast to that of the Austrian Cistercian monks of 2008, who seem quite sublime, un-regimented, and singing only in response to their devotion to God. Even so, this recording by the Spanish monks is clear, pure, and by the books; it is authentic. If you are interested in Gregorian chant, you should have a chant rendition of this ... Read More:

This is a fantastic CD. The fact that my son's religion teacher Father Charbel of JSerra Catholic High School, and a Norbertine Priest, chants on this CD makes it special however even if I knew no one on this CD, it is one that I would buy for myself or for a friend! Already I sent one to my sister in Northern California!
Several times already, when I have been stressed and needed some peace, I played this CD and felt the peace of Christ come over me.
I would encourage anyone to buy this!

I have 13 of their CD's . This one is the best . Four exquisite voices , painstaking research , facinating liner notes , all of their music has this in common . What sets this apart is the clairity of the recording . Each of these ladies have amazing voices that come alive with a good set of speakers . All of the reverberations and harmonics are there , and in phase . Turn it up and listen to the crispness of each voice on every note . This is one of my favorite CD's of all time .
